    Yessir!
I owned a second-gen Prius from 2006-2013; don't think I ever used B-mode in it. I once rented a Prius in New Zealand in 2012 (drove over 2000 miles in 3 weeks!), and given the amount of mountainous driving there, I used B-mode quite a bit, and boy was it great! I really wish I would have had a PiP there; it was sad how much energy was being wasted on some of those drives because the battery simply wasn't big enough to capture it!
Now I use B-mode pretty often in my PiP if I want a good controlled speed-limiter down a big hill (particularly at one where there's a stop sign at the bottom!). I have gotten surprised once or twice by the engine popping on if the battery doesn't have room though, and once or twice I've put it in B-mode while in HV mode without thinking...

For speed control down long hills, how would using B mode be different from setting the cruise control? Unlike in conventional ICE cars, where cruise control only controls the throttle, cruise control in the Prius can actively slow you down using regeneration, which is just what B mode is doing in this scenario.

Just a different scenario... I want an acceleration limiter or constant deceleration that is higher than regular coasting, not a speed-enforcer. Plus it's more work, and wouldn't work at low speeds (I forget the minimum for cruise... 20MPH??). And if I hit the brakes to slow down a bit more, it would cancel the cruise setting, unlike using B-mode.

I have a question for Clearwater Blue (the original poster who bought the RAV4 EV) - Did you just drive to California and buy the car there, then ship/drive it back? If someone on the east coast wanted one, is the best option to fly out, buy it, and have it shipped back? It's clear from Toyota's RAV4EV website that unless you live in California they're not interested in selling you one. I'm just wondering the best approach for those far away from California.

I had my Rav shipped. If you want one out of state, you will probably need to buy one pre-owned, private seller. And I believe the last new Rav EV was assembled just this week. They might become harder to find once more Nissan Leafs come off lease...seems that the Leaf owners are gravitating toward the Rav.

Well if you need an emergency range extender here's an idea:

How to charge up your BMW i3 with a Honda

Of course just because it worked on the i3 doesn't mean it'll work on the Rav4 EV. If it did work I'd look into getting a diesel powered one with 240 output. I'd also look for pure sine wave too!

    Well that escalated quickly....

Rather than posting a new thread, which i reserve the right to do so, I thought Id post here first. I also just purchased a Rav4 EV. I am keeping the PIP and letting the fiance drive it though just so I can still be part of the priuschat family.

I am extremely excited about the Rav EV. I have been crawling all over myrav4ev.com and I finally took the plunge. I love my PIP but I hated that the ICE would turn on in cold weather even when I had range, I wanted more range, and I needed as much interior space as possible. The Rav4 EV was perfect and I consider it to be a steal at $35,000!

I am having it shipped across the country to Central NY. It was picked up in CA this morning (Wednesday) and is scheduled to arrive to me on Saturday. I am hoping it arrives in time to go to the National EV meet in Syracuse this Saturday.

Yes thats the deal Toyota is offering on these right now.
MSRP is about $50k but they are giving a discount of $17,500 and then you get a check from CA for $2500 for buying an EV (which I may or may not apply for). If I do I will end up paying around $33,0

I dont have my paperwork in front of me but I leased it for around $490 including CA tax with an unlimited mileage lease and NO MONEY OUT OF POCKET. I mean zero!

I wont tell you how I got one brand new shipped to NY because I dont want to get my sales person in trouble with Toyota. Its not allowed but its not hard to overcome, assuming you know someone in CA. I wont say anymore on here though.

I started with a PIP but I really wanted to go full EV. The volt isnt a full EV and its not big enough, the Leaf has battery issues and isnt big enough, and the Model S and Model X are more than I can justify spending money on when I am going to be moving tools, hot water tanks, dishwashers, etc in. The first inevitable scratch I got would infuriate me. The Rav EV was the perfect option!

I know someone that bought one a few months back with $16k discount but that discount comes with a lease only. I guess you can buy it at the end of your lease. .....if they let you.

It is $17,500 and has been for a couple months now, but yes, its on a lease only. And yes you can buy it at the end of the lease. The residual is amazingly only $18k. I left my crystal ball in the garage but I cant imagine these would be less than $30k in 3 years.

Sounds like a bargain. If I have solar panels at my house, I would buy one

Fantastic deal at 35k. How is a lease taxed on a car bought in CA but registered elsewhere ?
    Congrats Jim and OP !

:)Very nice, excellent deal, smart move. I love my Prius Plug In, but 10 miles EV isn't working. Even if the new Gen 4 doubled the EV range, I wouldn't be happy. Toyota isn't committed to EV and it's a shame.
