Next hint: Although I almost always drink my coffee black and strong, if visiting, one really should have coffee with hot milk for the full experience. Don't wear a dark suit, the powdered sugar will stand out.

Oh, I'm embarrassed I didn't recognize it before the second hint. Even so I consider it too easy/obvious for me. You cropped out a key element that would have made it obvious.

My wife wanted me to add that element (the item across the railroad tracks to the east) for the hint, but that would have been giving it away. I thought the square was enough.

BTW, where is your link, I assume you found it or would you rather leave it for someone else? :D :D

No, I was thinking of the element to the West directly on the square. I didn't link and will let someone else figure it out. This one was too obvious for me to fee right about answering.

Well from the aerial view, it is not as distinctive as it is from the ground. I forgot about it at first (although I definately know better!) It has been quite a while since I have been there.

Let's see if anyone else can read between the lines, maybe I'll post a hint after church tomorrow.

Gotta love the coffee at Cafe du Monde , and the Beignets!!!

    Where to go next....

OK, I was hoping the resolution here was better, because I am sure the scenery is fantastic...

For the record, I was referring to the Mississipi River as a possible hint while I assume efusco was referring to St. Louis Cathedral.

Note that for St. Louis Cathedral, the first church dates back to around 1720 or so.

Cafe du Monde is a newcomer established in 1862 and is open 24x7 except Christmas, or brief closings caused by major fires or hurricanes.

It took me a second to realize what you were saying in your hint, but lucky for me I ran across "The Girls Next Door" when I was channel surfing earlier today. I don't think I would have thought of the proper context if I hadn't seen part of that show.

    It's the Playboy mansion.

Hint: half of this building is now communist office space after a "liberation" effort.

    Found it.

Sorry for the delay, I had to figure out what it was! Based on the clue, I was searching Tibet for a monastery and saw lots of interesting sites, but not that one. Finally, I decided to go to Lhasa and search by hand. Sure enough there it was. Using google maps to try to identify it, I found out it is the Potala Palace. A description can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potala_Palace

    Great post Boulder Bum!

Now I am off to find another site.

    Found one.

Hint: Part of a coast to coast canal system.

Next hint: It might be useful to have your kroner with you while you take a leisurely trip via the canal.

Well, unless you've rotated the image and I can't spot it, it isn't the Saimaa Canal or the larger one that connects the Baltic to the White Sea. Is this a canal of some repute (like the Baltic-White Sea one) or is it just some random canal in Scandanavia? - because they're dozens of the damn things and trial and error picking through them all is gonna get tiresome.

Fair enough, a few more hints:

    Image is not rotated.

I wouldn't say it is random!

The section may be somewhat random (except to me) since the whole thing was the largest project in the country of interest, it spans 150 miles and has 58 locks.

The image of the section shown is anchored by lakes on the east and west ends (not rivers).

These hints (especially the latest set will lead you to the right canal.) To find the right section, pay attention to the color of the lakes!

Göta Canal, Sweden. I can't claim much responsibility for finding it though, since the clues practically gave me the name and coordinates!

    New location:

This amusement park seems like a great place for kids... but the several complaints have been filed against the owner.

Yeah... Just like its namesake, this amusement park will let you hold onto your childhood, at the cost of your innocence.

Looks like it's time I updated the landmarks to date list, but no, the Observatory atop Mauna Kea on the Hawaii big island has not been done already.

    Good pick!

It may look desolate, but on any given day, year round, more than 10,000 people are hiking to it or from it.

Dang, I was going to use that one once, but the image quality was so crappy I didn't bother. Wonder if they updated it recently or something....maybe I was looking at the wrong spot...do not know, but it sure wasn't that pretty.
