Goodyear Integrity Mileage

Yeah, it isn't a really big deal. Only the outside shoulders are showing more wear (the transverse sipes...enough to see but I haven't measured it) while the center of the tread stays healthy. So much for the dangers of high pressure. I think I will swap 'em across the car so that I don't get one side totally rounded-over. Handling is quite secure and predictable at the limits so I don't suspect anything like a camber issue. I probably just need to spend less time trying to decide if handling is still OK at the limits.

 

Getting to the left side tire wear. Put on snow tires at 9100 miles on 2008 prius. My right front outside was worn to the point of being bald. 2 previous courtesy inspections by dealer revealed nothing. Was told bt service manager this is normal for this type of tire. Integrity. What about the other three. I suspected alignment and they did not check it. Any ideas.

 

Wearing the shoulders down to nothing in under 10k is never normal on any tire! No tire that isn't defective anyway. It sounds like your dealer just wanted you to go away because they should absolutely check the alignment, and IIRC there is a TSB about cars being delivered with a bad alignent, which they should fix once under warranty. Search the forums and you should find it. The other thing is to increase your tire pressure to 42psi front / 40psi rear since the Prius does tend to be hard on the shoulders at the stock pressure. (But not so hard that they're gone at 9100mi.)

 

I took my Gy Integritys off my wife's Prius the first chance I had. Found them very squirmy even pumped to 42 psi. What ended our relationship with them, was a trip from Maine to Florida. Wet interstate travel at 65 mph was not fun with this tire. Wet braking was worse. So off they came and on went a set of Gy Tripletreds. Improved tracking and the car's drivability with no impact on gas mileage.

Have had two sets of the Tripletreds with some wear problems induced by a slight rear pasenger side hub/brake bindind that was not discovered until I manually rotated the wheel and felt it. Before this discovery, I bad mouthed the Tripletreds to everyone. It was not the tire, my bad. It was the car's fault that they ended up flat spotted and noisy, even when rotating every 3 to 6K miles.

Not sure about Toyota product's tire wear characteristics yet. I have been a Honda driver many years and now my wife and I have two Toyota built cars. The Hondas were always gentle to tires and wore them evenly. Now that the Prius problem has been fixed, we will get a better picture of how this car treats its tires. One thing that I have noticed for sure so far, the Hondas tracked a lot better, and required less steering input or correction on smooth roads.

 

Were they the Triple Treads (Goodyear)?

Triple treads were not available from Goodyear for the Prius. I had to get the Comfort Treads

You're right. When I went to get a different tire, there were very few choices. I had read about Euro and Japanese market Prius, so instead, I bought a set of 16 inch wheels (42mm et) and a 205/55 Gy TripleTreds. The tire was just out and the tire dealer thought it would work great since whe had talked about the Prius tendency to wander off center.

The Gy Assurance TripleTreds allowed the car to track a lot straighter than the hopeless Integritys and were really great in the rain. Even with the added size, at 42psi front and 40 rear I didn't see a drop in mileage. No one figured out the reason for the eventual flat spotting of these tires until I went through the second set of TTs.

This time I put set of Gy RS-A's in the same size. Not as linear as the TTs, but the price was right, since they're off my new 08 Vibe. The sidewalls are also a little softer. Had them on about a month and a half.

How do you like the Gy Comfort Treds, Bat? Do they ride as nice as they advertise?

Quieter by a lot, and the ride is better. Mileage is to soon to tell, as well as traction. Traction in the snow should be better.

The Intregites feel like they are made of wood or concrete by comparison.

 

What size and how many miles on your Comfort Treds so far? If your mileage stays up... I might go with those for the Prius. You should notice a difference in handling, too. Good? Bad?

I know the Integritys were pretty poor performers... so almost any new tire would be an improvement! Let us know how they do.

Handling seems better, along with the ride.
MPG is 4-6 mpg lower, but the same as last year at this time. Colder weather and winter blend fuel, usually result in 10-20% drop in mileage, on runs of 20 miles or less. The Tire shop had about 32 PSI, and mpg was lower. I raised it to 42 in front and 40 psi in the rear, and are now getting close to the Intergity mpg's.

Integrity vs Comfortred:

I got about 32K mi out of the OEM Integritys. Replaced with same size Comfortreds which definitely ride smoother and quieter. Mileage decreased slightly (from about 55 to 53 mpg). I've only had the Comfortreds for about 3K mi.

I think I could have wrung more miles out of the Integritys if it were not for undiagnosed rear misalignment (which is a whole story in itself). But maybe that was a blessing in disguise because I didn't like the Integritys very much.

The Prius seems very "twitchy" about its shoes. Seems like the alignment needs to be maintained very close to perfect and tire inflation needs to be kept above mfr's recommendation. At least that has been my experience. I drive at least 80% freeway.

As for handling, the Comfortreds feel better than Integritys both on dry or wet pavement (no snow, I live in San Diego). But they are not a performance tire and I don't expect them to handle like one. Will they last 80K mi? Will just have to find out how they wear over time.

 

With winter coming...Pennsylvania...I replaced mine at 23.5k with tread at 3/32"

 

07 Prius, package 6. Goodyear Integrity's are junk. Edges worn before 20k totally gone by 30k. Toyota replaced them @ 30k for free but wouldn't admit any problem. I went with the Yokohama tire. I have 13k on them and no visible wear at all. I did all the right things, rotation every 5k, pressure of 44 on all tires. I checked online after Toyota offered either Integritys or Yokohamas and the rating on the Yokohama was 100% better than the Integrity in all catagories. As you can see my last name is Goodyear, but........... I wouldn't recommend these Goodyear tires

 

I am having the same issues with the bicycle tires (Integrity) that came with our 07 Prius. About 32K the front were showing edge wear; need to replace them soon, like maybe next week. I inflate to 38 and 36 respecfully and rotate at every oil change. What crappy tires, I really thought they would do better than that.

 

I'm getting uneven wear on the fronts approaching 20k miles. Will be having the alignment done at the same time as the oil change, which will hopefully aleviate the wearing. They've been rotated every 5k and inflated to 42/40

 

Mine started wearing on the edges @ 15K, badly worn on edges by 25K, replaced free by Toyota @ 30K. Tires were rotated religiously every 5K. Ran 42-44psi on all tires. As far as I am concerned, The Goodyear Integrities are junk. Had a choice of tires @ replacement. Either the Goodyears again or Yokohama Avid's. Took the Yokohama's. They now have 16K and show almost NO wear. and no fuel mileage difference.

 

Mine are at 35,000 miles and look great. I have rotated them every 10,000 and ran 50psi front, 48psi rear.I hope they can make it until December(they should be around 50,000) then I can get a new set just in time for winter. Another note they done great in the snow, I have been real pleased with them so far..

 

Hey fgoodyear what model of the Yokohama Avid's do you have?

I'm considering the TRZs in the Yokos. I've gotten almost 41,000 miles on my stock GY Integrities but they need to be replaced soon. I'm down to the last 2/32 on three of the tires but my dealer won't budge on replacing them on the Extended Mile Warranty because that fourth tire still has 3/32 on it. If I could get that last 32nd off the other tire I could get them replaced free + Alignment charge. My dealer only offers 3 tires for the warranty replacement, the Integrity, Michelin Primacy (At nearly $190 per tire -$80 per tire integrity warranty value $110 per tire No Way), or some low end tire which seems to have no brand name.

I think I'll just bite the bullet and buy the Yokohama TRZs online myself, I also like the Pirelli Cinturato P5 but can find little in the way of reviews or info on this tire.

 

Same here. Mine are at 47,000 and are in good condition. I should have a little over 50K by the time I need to replace them in November. I also recommend rotating the tires at oil changes, but if 10K works, go with it. My Prius is a 2008 and I have some winter weather to contend with here in Virginia. I am 42 front and 40 rear. and have avg. 53 mpg.

 

I have exactly the same like your (edges were bad and middle about 3/32" left). I searched for the picture the wear pattern this indicated that I have low pressure. I always rotate tires front to rear every 5K (3 months) and check tire pressure 37/35. I really think the tire gauge is incorrect display (digital) because I can see by my eyes it looks low pressure. I will find another tire pressure gauge to compare.

BTW. the original tires set is at 62K miles, and 52-56MPG

Ok, I just replaced my OEM Goodyear stock Integrity tires (they last 62K miles) with Michelin x Radial. The new Michelin tires much quiet and good handling. I hope they will not decrease in MPG.

 

I recently changed out the Goodyear Integrities with just under 25,000 miles for Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max tires. The Integrities were badly worn on the edges all around and almost down to the wear marks.

Got a nail through one of the new Fuel Max Tires and took it back to Discount Tires for repairs. I mentioned to the manager that the Fuel Max tires rolled better and got better gas mileage and that I hoped they would last longer. He said that they change out a lot of Integrities because of the edge wear problem. I asked if this was due to the slightly heavier left front weight distribution on the Prius and he said, no, they saw it on all makes and models regardless of rotation or care. The rubber on the edges of the Integrities just is not up to the task in his opinion.

I run 42/40PSI.
