Nope, you are in the same position that Wayne Gerdes was in 4 years ago. In an edmunds forum, Wayne brought up the same point you just did. The point was that the same ZTS engine without PZEV would make more power and more MPG.

Since then, HSD has proven to be more popular. I do hope more people buy and drive PZEV cars. Just don't compare it to HSD and ignore/discredit HSD benefits. HSD is in a different class.

A small plug-in could meet most peoples' driving needs 90% of the time, making it the perfect second car for a small family. As for expensive, that plug-in will not seem so expensive when gasoline is $15 a gallon. It's really too bad that GM has no intention of building a plug-in, either large or small, either expensive or affordable.

The Chinese, on the other hand, who have a growing economy, lots of coal (for making electricity), and no big entrenched oil companies to stand in the way, are developing electric cars, and may be well-poised to take over the U.S. auto market when gas finally gets out of the reach of Joe consumer, and the Big 3 have no factories for building anything but SUVs and pickup trucks designed to pull big trailer homes.

As I suspected, it's your usual crying sour grapes about Toyota and now making totally unsubstantiated claims and statements that you're trying to present as fact when you've just pulled them out of the air.

What non-hybrid PZEV car gets worse milage than its non-PZEV counterpart? I'm only finding the same EPA numbers for both Focus engines. Maybe using some of the add-ons, not all, for the PZEV can net some increases fuel economy, but what happens to emmissions?

Now, is losing 10 horsepower really that much of trade off? Do you really need all the power you get in a new car these days? The new Taurus produces 263hp and gets around the same milage as the '96 I once drove. I was happy with the acceleration I got with its 145hp. Is the newest model that much heavier that it requires a 100+ power increase?
    I find it excessive.

Aside from a few spelling errors (we're/were and sight/site), here is what I picked out:

Q: It seems like this effort is a tremendous risk to the company?
A: (TP)â€Absolutely. No doubt about it.â€..â€But you know what would be riskier?…Doing nothingâ€

Q: Will you make the batteries swappable so that if a better technology comes along or if a Project Better Place-like program arrives the car could participate?
A:(DG) “Your battery will always be serviceable. Always. You just slide it out and put another back in.â€

Q: Your going to design it that way?
A: (DG) “I have to. Easy to slide out and in by a trained technician. And we’ve learned a lot about how to service batteries.â€

    Right.
Maybe when consumer reports takes a larger portion of GM's lineup off their 'crap' list, maybe then I can consider looking at another of their cars . . . their REAL cars . . . not ones they keep saying they'll make. Meanwhile, I just keep pulling down more and more 60 + mpg tankfulls, while I wait.
