GM's HY-Wire Hydrogen Concept Car

Actually, that makes me wonder - will people even be allowed to fill their own H2 tanks, at least at first? It seems one little 'oops' at 10,000 psi could hurt a lot of bystanders! At least you wouldn't have a topping off problem, no way to slowly pull the 'nozzle' out as you try to get the last little bit in

And interesting as the H2 idea is, I STILL want to know what happens when all the H2O exhaust from thousands of cars drips onto the road at sub freezing temperatures. Maybe for dry areas, they could contain the liquid and then you could spray it on your yard when you get home instead of turning on the sprinklers ;-)

I saw the Scientific American thing on PBS: Future Car, anybody else?

Alan Alda got to drive that Hy-wire from GM. I noticed that it looked just like a Prius in profile right away, too. But the inside is just Jetson-esque. Beautiful conveyance, but what threw me was that GM guy gushing exactly like a used car salesman. I'll bet ya a dollar he started out as a salesman...

Anyway, what intrigued me was the part about Iceland. They're harnessing their geologic good fortune to build an independent, cheap, clean, hydrogen economy. They showed a public (free?) hydrogen refueling station. I remember thinking if we had that in the U.S., there'd be some loser that would use it as a flame thrower or something.

They had the inventor of the hybrid idea, with a prius converted to hydrogen instead of gas. Awesome...

P.S. Hydrogen is so light it tends to just burn straight up in a plume, actually safer than gas, it seems...

 

No politician has anybody's interest at heart but his own. But the most dangerous thing of all is an idealogue who cannot be swayed by evidence that his policies are having disastrous results.

I have not decided yet whether to vote for Kerry or write in a protest candidate. But if I do vote for Kerry it will be because Bush asserts that he has the right to imprison anybody, indefinitely, without due process, simply by accusing that person of terrorism, denying the accused person the right to appear before a judge and argue his innocence!!!
