Dumping means selling for less than it costs to make the product. That clearly is not the case.

We are all buying foreign made products, including automobiles and electronics, because foreign makers offer well made, competitively priced goods that the public wants. I clearly remember how GM honchos refused to engineer OHC engines because the average Joe would not know the difference between OHC and OHV. Well, this consumer does. Can you please show me one U.S. made reliable car that delivers excellent economy with decent handling and performance which does not have the looks (inside and outside), features and feel of an ultra cheap econobox?

If and when Detroit starts offering competitive products that the public wants the public will come back.

There are plenty of foreign buyers for U.S. made pharmaceuticals, bio-tech and aerospace products as well as super computers, to name just a few, because in those fields we do offer the best products in the word, bar none.

As one poster mentioned above, didn't we slog through all this tolling last year? Wasn't it decidecd last year, during the "Smoke and Mirrors" post ... a 36 page session where malorn railed on and on, about how lousey Toyota was, and how GM doesn't get a fair shake .... on and on, regardless of how many dissatisfied ex-gm customers on this site tried to set the record straight? I can't remember whether it was malorn or another, who was a chevy dealer. Sheesh! with so many charts and facts showing how great GM is, it's hard to believe we aren't all trying to convince our Congressman to LOWER CARB standards ... of course GM doesn't really need help from CARB ... because that there "VOLT" car ... it's just around the corner. Right! EVAN ... where ARE YOU ? ! ? Save us from our inability to resist!
BTW, JD power is a tool of the industry. That's why, for example, Land Rover rates high on this chart here, but on the consumer reports charts? BOTTOM. Simalarly, Jags & Caddies above LEXUS? RIGHT!

Keep in mind that is the J. D. Power "sales satisfaction" survey. That's basically covering "sales experience" stuff like how the dealer and sales manager treat you etc., not quality of the car brand in question... At least give us that initial quality chart or something a little more interesting.

No need to attack me Malorn, as I'm certainly not going to try to defend them if they do/are. But, I'm sick and tired of the greedy corporations treating us all like sheeple, BRAINWASHING people into thinking they NEED to have a 400 HP V8 pickup or SUV. As I said, they do it for ONE simple reason: GREED. They are trying to keep this gluttonous SUV balloon up in the air as long as possible, just for the sake of their shareholders and for the bonuses they will receive.
Even my cousin, who has worked most of his adult life for a GM dealership as a head mechanic, when seeing my Prius said "no one needs a V8 anymore. We need more cars like that." This is a guy who, like me, lived and breathed Pontiac V8's in the '70's and '80's. He had a '66 Goat, and I had a '71 455 HO Trans Am. Grease and gasoline are practically in our family's veins. But, you know, we both learned our lesson during the gas shortages of the '80's, and I for one don't need to be taught something twice. Now, I look out for the best, longterm financial interests of my family, so I bought a car that I hope will help us ride out the impending storm. I agree with you that the US Dollar and economy are headed for a huge fall. But, instead of sitting here pointing the finger, trying to push the blame on others, I'm making my survival plans.
