Yes. AFAIK, any DVD reader or writer will read a pressed disk. Different story for DVD+R DL (burned disks), though.....only my DVD writers are able to read those.
Maybe.. But I still see GDT in the mix of copyrights which leads me to think they are using gdt data... I found that NavaTech (or whatever thier name is now) had more correct data.. at least for my region.. based on the 2002 Prius I had. In many ways I would like to go back to that dvd version... yes I will give up some extras, but depending on that list... might be worth it.. just to get the correct directions... now doing "Prius time" waiting on my update.
FWIW, most of the files on my v4.2 disk are dated 9/2004; the files on my v3.2 disk are dated 11/2003. Probably doesn't mean much but....
I discovered what I consider to be a serious shortcoming: no Toyota dealers. I was in an unusual part of town and wanted to head to Toyota Hollywood for my 10000 service. I tried to get to the destination via the POI menu, no luck. I had to look at a business card and enter "6000 Hollywood Blvd". I am getting ready to take a serious road trip, Los Angeles to Ohio. It would be handy to know where the Toyota dealers are in case I had to stop in.
If it's anything like the discs for the 2001-2003 models, NAVTEQ data is used exclusively in areas where we (I work as a programmer for NAVTEQ) have "Detailed City" coverage, and a mix of NAVTEQ and GDT data is used elsewhere, NAVTEQ for main roads and GDT for others. The '01-03 system displays GDT data in a slightly darker version of the background color and won't use it for driving directions.
kool one of the programmers... thanks very much for the data... now if I can just get my hands on one of these updates... something in the process is draging feet... Note: I do not think the 2004-2005 version is anything like the 2001-2003... but just an outsider looking in... I just might have to dust off my hacking cap.. and see what I can find... later
OK, that explains why NAV can't direct me to my house (stops directing 5 blocks away), even though it lists all the needed streets, and the address ranges in them.
just got my re-call done from toyota on this. i didn't really notice a lot of errors before. some addresses (#'s did not exist) were there. hopefully this would be fixed.
