It's probably a combination of things, such as the tires being broken-in by this point, and the lower gas prices. But I'll wager a large portion of it is because you're learning how to best handle the c to maximize your fuel efficiency, such as coasting as much as possible, which the eco score mini-game helps with.

I have only lived with Ms. Mila for less that 4 weeks, but here is what I have figured out:

    1. Any operational condition that causes the engine to make "too much noise" is using an awful lot of fuel: going uphill (especially, God forbid, accelerating while going uphill); hard acceleration in general; going too fast.

I imagine driving on a dirt track should increase the fuel consumption as well.

    2. Physical braking as opposed to gliding to a stop does not recharge the battery, so it will have to be recharged by the engine, using up more gas.

If you drive in ECO mode with the ECO Monitor screen on, it will show you in real time whether the vehicle is running in EV, ECO or PWR mode (shifting among the three occurs automatically, depending on how much torque you are telling the engine to produce). If you avoid getting into the PWR mode as much as possible, the fuel economy will be better. With some practice, you should be able to correlate the engine sound with the monitor status.

No - watch your Eco monitor while you press the brake pedal.

    Physical braking, not regenerative

Wrong - light brake pressure, regen only, heavier pressure, physical plus regen.

    Simply wrong as stated.
A slight pressure on the pedal will first engage regen.; more pressure will engage the pads in ADDITION to the regen.
Gliding (not using the brake pedal at all) will not do any regen.........or at least nothing significant.

    Nitpicking time:

In the Prius regen begins before the fuel pedal is completely released and increases as the pedal is released completely.
Brake pedal pressure adds to the regen up to a maximum allowed,
and then friction braking kicks in as the brake pedal is depressed further.

I think the regular brake pads are engaged a bit more/sooner than stated above. Regen comes on too, but I've noticed, say when the car's been washed, and then sat for a day or two, the brake discs rusting up: as SOON as you touch the brakes, you hear the pads working on the rust.

I'm afraid you simply didn't fully read/understand my post, did you :)

I said physical (as in "friction") braking, which kicks in when you force the car to decelerate faster than purely regenerative braking process would allow.

You simply didn't fully read/understand your own post, which included the following erroneous assumption:

Physical braking and regen occur together when stopping by pressing the brake pedal, so the battery IS recharged during physical braking as opposed to gliding.

^ Yes, with gentle acceleration :)

Or, let's start a new Talmudic debate: my Prius is smaller than yours :ROFLMAO:

    No such thing.

There is pilpul, which in form and intent mirrors Socratic rhetoric without the attempt to inject fallacy.

Do you recommend leaving the Eco button on or driving on regular power mode.

I am in MS, I use Eco in the morning but resort to regular on summer afternoons. If the A/C seems OK to you, just stay in Eco.
