For comparison, here is my SS. Fuelly does not let me sort out metered from calculated MPG.

p.s. The SS is meant to be read-only. If you find a way to edit, -- please refrain.

Congrats on the great mpg's so far...

In the end it is up to each of us to decide how we want to track our mpg's and the data. And how much we want to share with others.

There are those on here that create some great scatter charts of their mpg's and varying data.

Not sure of how you drive your CTh, but the data you shared would be the envy of many CTh owners on Fuelly.

The same way I drove our G2 Prius: Anticipate lights, try to stay off the brakes, DWL on the highway when I can. These days the CTh is used very little for town driving so I have little chance to shoot for (for me) the hard to reach r/t 80 mpg.

In both cars I end up in the top couple percent of the curve. To be honest I am not really sure why I do better than most, unless everybody else drives like my wife ;)
One wonderful trick to high MPG is having some help from wind. Part of my drive to work is a 30 mile route that meanders up and down hills at 50-60 mph. I had an 11 mph wind today pushing forward at about 45 degrees, and with that help hit 77 mpg for that part of the trip.

Why do people get gas after 60-200 miles? Do they just do this to bring up their mpg average? I think it is kind of lame. You own a Prius which gets 50+ mpg and you fill up after a gallon or two of usage.
I get gas, when I need it.

There is a valid reason sometimes for doing this, actually. For instance, in winter (in cold climates), they say to keep your tank at least 1/2 full. I believe the argument is to prevent condensation in the fuel tank, though, which may be irrelevant for the Prius' bladder structured tank, I don't know....

In this case, I think it is just people wanting to log more entries into the website. It is fun! BTW, I don't see how filling up more often raises your MPG average. It is an average, after all.

My most common reason for a mini fill is when I am in an area where the fuel is considerably higher cost, and I want a buffer to get where I am going and the fuel is cheap(er). I am willing to spend the extra couple minutes to not enrich the industry any more than I have to.

The Prius has an 11.9 gallon tank. Using one or two gallons isn't 1/2 full, it almost at full capacity. If you look at "The Grey Ghost" he only drove 78 & 95 miles before filling up again. One reason was just a test but the other was for no reason.
I've seen it with others as well, with nothing in notes stating a reason. I saw one where they are filling up after using only 1 gallon done a handful times.

"I don't see how filling up more often raises your MPG average. It is an average, after all."

So are you saying that Fuelly takes the average by taking account of all the miles you drove? So for example, if you drove 500 miles and got 50 mpg, log it on fuelly, then drive 1 mile get 100 mpg, log that as a new fuel up on fuelly, It will calculate the 501 miles together taking in account that 100 mpg was only for 1 mile getting around a little over 50 mpg on the average instead of by fuel ups which would show 75mpg?

It is fun! BTW - well, whatever floats your boat. If you don't mind visiting a gas station every few days.

I'll guess that some of the times fuelly people are adding small amounts of fuel is to calculate MPG for a trip. This is not an accurate method, but they do not know that. Or, they are defining the inaccuracy ;)

Since a few people here are advocating Fuelly to raise the Prius presence, I have a question for them: Can the data in Fuelly be retrieved ?

If not, then forget it as a original source data repository.

Both were tests. The 95 mile tank was my chance to see how I did with only commuting to work as the notes mentioned, though not listed as a test.

Okay. I've heard before you cannot get an accurate MPG filling up half or partially. Maybe I misunderstood, is it true? If so, why is that?

This is true for any car. "full" varies by temperature, pressure, pump, incline and who knows what else. Even if "full" varies by only 100 ml, a 100 mile trip using about 8 liters will have a 1.25% error range. Shorter trips, bigger error. Longer trips or multi-tank calculations, less error.

I tend to do this when I am swapping tires around and I want to capture what data I have for those particular tires and wheels.

I am registered on fuelly but don't know how to get the fuelly info over on this forum. How did you all do it?

On your Fuelly profile (where you see all of your stats)....scroll down to the bottom and look between your logs and the EPA data. Click the little yellow shield found in the row with facebook and twitter icons. Then on that page...copy the code under the box "To include the banner image in a forum signature, copy and paste the following BBCode:"

Finally go to your profile on here...find your signature...and then paste that code into your signature and save. It will update automatically from that point on. Good luck!
