I suspect the farm lobby might be eyeing a new crop ... cane or beets, specifically for ethanol production. Its a new market! We have excess capacity on our farms, and shifting the energy dollars from going "over there" to going to Iowa and Missouri is seen as a good thing. I actually think that's a win-win.

Government shouldn't be subsidizing it, but that's another argument.

I agree completely. If Ford or GM really wants to play the "Our cars get better MPG then your cars" game with Toyota and Honda, they should put a Start/Stop system on EVERY car they make. If GM was able to stop every new car from idling, they would probably have the best fleet efficiency by far.

    Peace,

The best thing I heard in the state of the union speech was reference to nuclear reactors. We need to get going again on this technology. The key to making the hydrogen fuel cell powered car practical is more available electrical energy. The idea of burning oil or natural gas to generate the elec. power which is necessary to produce hydrogen for such cars would be just plain stupid.
Not to worry about getting rid of spent fuel rods, Yucca Mt. is ready to go for such waste and the sooner we get the waste into one spot where it can be safely stored the better off we will be.
