Number 8 loves them and number 16 never ate. Not claiming it's a problem. Just a head scratcher.

sorry. i have fond childhood memories, and i love the chestnut due to them.

i have never tasted one, so do not know if i would love the flavor/texture/eating

i just put them around the turkey at thanksgiving to dress it up, and around the table centerpiece

Think of it as an oversized, macadamia nut, less crisp and a little starchy. Wood roasted to the edge of chard, a real treat.

I was also thinking of macadamia nut comparison. But then I got off track because macadamia shell (exocarp) is an amazingly tough bioengineered thing. While chestnut inner shell (mesocarp) fails the thumbnail test.

Growing up in Canada there were street vendors in downtown Toronto before Christmas selling hot roasted chestnuts. I never tried any though.

i have never seen that around here. if someone made some, i'd give them a try. maybe it's family tradition or a cultural thing? i see them in whole foods, but i don't know anyone who makes/eats them.

i like the song as well.
