Generation 3 oil consumption

    that's about a quart per 1,000 miles? just under toyotas go to number. but they won't cover it out of warranty anyway.
    working on these engines is labor intensive. unless you diy, most say you're better off to swap in a low mile salvage. that way, all the parts are younger

    I heard this phenomenon may start from 60-80k miles. so if I swap it which has almost the same labor, not sure I'm better off.

    if you can find a 2015, or a gen4 engine, you will be.

    2015 and forward have revised pistons and rings, supposedly less prone to oil consumption.

    yeah, I heard. I wonder how much a salvaged engine +labor compared to this repair.

    someone reported 24 hours labor for a head gasket repair

    i think engine swap can be done in a day? not positive, plus cost of engine

    We have the same concern. It seems like you need to find a 2015 or later engine to get the updated pistons and rings. And not sure how many mechanics are eager to try putting one of those into a Gen3.

    Have to find a mechanic in Utah who does that for me. or replace engine. Toyota dealerships are useless :(
