With no real alternative -- I'm going to buy one. With gas prices falling I can't see the prices going up -- last I checked they still had the 5 years at 0%. My 2011 will be paid for later in the year and has 150+k on it -- set of tires and wiper blades being my only expense.

I surprised how much the 2011 is worth! I bought a Lexus CT and that has exceeded my expectations (as the first Prius did). I'm still trying to figure out what my fleet makeup should be -- so I'm not sure if I am going to get rid of the 2011 or keep it. They (Prius) are very practical cars -- but I don't love them on longer trips -- over a couple hours. The CT has been much better for longer trips -- I'm going to take it this weekend (4 hours) ... but in August I have a six hour trip .. I'm taking my best SUV.

I don't find the gen 3 to be an ugly car -- it's not pretty .... Most of the Toyota products are rather bland.

I bought my Prius for the look of the outside as well as the inside. The dashboard is awesome.

Oh dear!! It's like a little clown car. Or two little cars smashed one on top of the other. So many lights . . .

Like the AMC Pacer, they tried to make a small car with 3 across seating. Apparently the Universe divides by zero when you try this, as neither car is a beauty.

But remember, there are bad cars that are beautiful, and perfectly good cars that are ugly. Can you say Pontiac Aztek? I thought you could.

Some bad cars that look good

That is one butt ugly car which I had the pleasure to drive once in the US as a rental (could not choose another one). And the fuel consumption was horrifying - fuel coming out of the exhaust pipe...

“Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly goes clean to the bone.”
    Attributed to Dorothy Parker.

When the G4 came out I had to make a New Year's resolution to no longer opine about the new look.
I remember when my company adopted the G3 in 2010, people driving G2's were still grumbling about the looks of the G3, so in many ways this is a "circle of life" thing.
Fortunately, for Priusdom, The G4 gets fairly good ink for driveability and there appear to have been some real-world efficiency gains as well, and as an added bonus they went with a different advertising angle than the tragic "Heck on Wheels" teaser that we were punished with,
Despite the porcelain palace interior the G4 is also more fun to live with on the inside as well and I haven't heard as many complaints about the creaking and squeaking interior bits that were common when the G3 first came out.

I can almost live with the Stealth Fighter front end, but the clash with the angles in the front and the seasickness inspiring swoopyness of the rear lights is just a bit to much for an old fart like me to deal with.
If they do a stark, mid-course correction for 2018 and lower the price?
    Maybe.
If gas goes up to $5 and they just patch up the outside of the car a little?
    Probably.

However (comma!) for now I'll just stick with driving a G3 for Big Bell and dreaming about a BEV or a PHEV.

    *sigh!*
I'm 0 for 2 on the New Year's resolutions now.....:(

I think the ugliest car I ever personally owned was a 1984 Chrysler Laser. That thing was funky looking man. I'm one of the minority that didn't buy a gen4 strictly for MPG either, I actually kinda liked the looks and the interior is cool and it drives great.

I like the looks. I like the angles, especially the rear end.

While the styling may not be to everyone's taste, I'm inside looking out and I like what I see.

    Beauty is in the eye...

When I first started driving the G3 (2010) everybody was still bashing that car's looks since the folks with the modeling clay went with a more angular look as opposed to the rounded G2.

I actually like the G3, so there's a car out there for everybody, and I do give Toyota all the credit in the world for not creating YET ANOTHER jellybean shaped 4 door, 5 pax car that looks like every other small FWD car.

I'm delighted that the G4 appeals to another generation of Prius drivers who are discovering that having a car that is fuel efficient doesn't necessarily mean that it has to also be boring.

The G4 appears to be anything but... ;)

I've been away from this forum for a while now. I came back because I have noticed how (IMHO) ugly the tail lights are. But having said that, a display with this good of MPG info is the type of thing that may get me to buy an ugly car! And to be clear, it's how much info they give you that I find attractive. My Gen 2 has a Scan Gage II in it. and it has helped my realize a lifetime 56.25 MPG (110,000 miles). My wife's Gen 3 (w/o the SG) is much harder to figure out what I'm doing right or wrong on Fuel Economy. It looks like with this detailed display, the SG is no longer needed.

The scan gauge is still useful - I moved mine from my 2008 to the 2016 when I changed vehicles.
