I asked the chief designer on reveal night and he said they removed it to strengthen the roof.

Does this mean that a sunroof won't be an available option on the Gen 4?

One will be available. The black car in Las Vegas had a moonroof. It slides into the ceiling rather than over the roof.

Maybe @ken1784 can help. What is the bar graph in #2 on the right, talking about?

According to @ken1784 reporting the staff manual:
40 km/l on the Japanese JC08 test cycle which is different from FPA test cycle, and it is for model E which I assume will be special for Japan.
The core models (S and A) achieve 37.0 km/l on JC08, an improvement of about 22% over the similar Gen 3 core models in Japan (S and G) (rated at 30.4 km/l).
My expectations are that the core models in the US will deliver at least an improvement of 18% i.e. 59 MPG or more, combined.

We had the same issue when the Gen 3 was launched. "Omg it's rated at 100mpg!!" - Some European magazine.

    Ok that's 100 Imp. MPG = 2.82 L/100km = 35.5km/L on the Japanese cycle.

By how much? The bar graph seems to have quantities.

It shows the quietness and feeling of door thickness.
The leftmost one is about Gen3 and next one is Gen4. I don't remember other right vehicles.
The bar graph shows no unit, so it is relative value. And Gen4 is more quiet and the door feeling is thicker than Gen3.

(probably, my English explanation looks strange by native speakers, but hope you understand what I would like to say...)

In an article on the toyota.co.uk site they write "18% less CO2", indirectly that means 18% increase in mpg in the european test cycle.

So based on the graph, the yellow one is about half the height of the Gen 3, so it's twice as quiet? I wonder how that translates to the decibel meter. The last generation Corolla (2009-2013) is quieter than a Gen 3 on the highway. That's embarrassing.

I think one of the vehicle is CT200h. It was used as one of the benchmark for body stiffness.

So yea, Gen4 doors are going to feel like (or better than) a Lexus. :D

Toyota has stated 10% gain for USA, i dont see why would they lie about it.

They also said double wishbone in many different PRs, no "but" about it.

And no, from first PRs about new Auris we knew lower end engines would have torsion beam.
These are not rumors, but statements from Toyota in their PRs.

As to the weight, it probably has more equipment and premium things than before, hence extra 10kg despite lower platform weight... old Prius had less sound deadening than other Toyotas, as well as much thinner plastic as well as much simpler suspension. For instance top Auris is 45kg lighter than CT200h with same suspension and we now see that Prius should be quieter and more premium sounding than CT200h.

For instance, Jaguar XE got new aluminium platform and yet didnt end up being lighest in the class - Jag stated that weight saved was put into luxury and much more sophisticated suspension.

It's using laser screw welding, a similar technique used on Lexus vehicles. The technology is filtering down to Toyota-branded vehicles in NA.

no they specifically stated that car will be 20% lighter. I was really curious how possibly can you drop so much without downsizing. Turned out you can't it was a lie. So forgive me for taking other Toyota statements with the grain of salt. Believe it when I see it.

Here is the official press release. It said nothing about being 20% lighter but there is 20% improvement in resource sharing with TNGA.

Today’s consumers expect environmental credentials, and the new Prius delivers. Smaller, lighter hybrid system components, higher-energy density in the batteries, and an internal combustion engine touting ground-breaking thermal efficiency (more than forty percent), contribute to a significant advancement in fuel economy. With an expected ten percent improvement in EPA estimated MPG on core models, Prius will offer best-in-class fuel economy among vehicles without a plug. A soon-to-be unveiled Eco model will achieve an even greater improvement, strengthening Toyota’s leadership in hybrid fuel efficiency.

But it’s not just about MPG anymore. Today’s customers want all the traditional benefits of a hybrid, but don’t want to compromise on looks and performance. So Toyota upgraded the Prius inside and out to deliver the complete package - emotional styling, smarter technology and impressive MPG, in a vehicle that’s more fun to drive than ever.

The 2016 Prius is the first global vehicle to implement Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA). TNGA aims to greatly improve core vehicle performance and enhance product appeal through an integrated development program for powertrain components and vehicle platforms. Development of vehicles is being grouped to promote strategic sharing of components with the goal of improving resource efficiency by better than twenty percent.

The all-new rear double wishbone suspension produces a better connection to the road, providing greater control and feedback in all driving conditions. A more rigid body helps improve responsiveness while cornering. From winding mountain roads to the wide boulevards downtown, the new Prius stays connected to the road, without sacrificing ride quality and occupant comfort.

You would have to trust google, but there are thousands of quotes stating 20% lighter, here is one for example:
Toyota to cut 20% off vehicle weight by 2015 via TNGA
just google Prius 20% lighter or TNGA lighter or Mitsuhisa Kato or just about anything. I am sure it is all "no no no it is not what we meant" now.

Yea, some hit saying 20% lower weight but mostly are speculations. We got tricked by looking at the Japanese spec and turned out Gen3 weight less in Japan too.

The link you provided said the vehicles using TNGA would reduce weight by 20%. Prius is one of them but there are others too. I would think Prius be the baseline (lowest weight) and any other vehicles (Camry?) would reduce weight by 20%?

That's another way to look at it.
