Agree to disagree. The back end looks like lips kissing. Can't un-see it.

I wonder how we'll feel about the Gen4 in the long run. I guess it will become common looking and boring.

I was behind a Volvo S40 recently and remembered how I really wanted it 10 years ago and loved the look of the back end, but now I can't remember why I thought that.

There's some strange excesses afoot in automotive design these days, methinks (channeling Shakespeare?). One my current peeves is all the SUV's that look like some sorta rolling dumbbell:

The Juke is barely bigger than the Pri. Actually the Pri is 14" longer.

I think they look like sports footwear! Do you U.S. folk call them "trainers"?
I thick that might even be deliberate.

    Exactly! "Sport" cars!

I'm partial to "dress" digital watches, a watch with a digital display and low profile, silver bezel and metal band.

Erm, good luck finding that: they all have oversized black plastic bezels, faux dive timing rings, thick/black plastic bands, myriad logos and icons. Grr...

I know "trainers", all the rage on Coronation Street, Line of Duty, and the ilk.

The Gen 4 is a work of art.

Like a beautiful woman, there is something to appreciate from every angle and with each changing ray of light.

This is a car that becomes more gorgeous every day.

I think we need a "Pinup" thread-- with each of us showing off our beautiful Gen 4s with the most spectacular backdrops imaginable-- from the beaches of Hawaii to he cliffs of Cornwall to the Singapore city-scape.

Anyone care to start such a thread?

Well, I'll do my best when I've finally collected mine from dealer tomorrow. So look out for Cornwall, pasties and last but not least Prius!

Well, if it is pinups that we are after I can commit that all the photos of my Prius Two will be bra-less.

You know, I'm wondering if it's a culture difference.

Most that are talking about art and beautiful design, I think will definitely enjoy some of the European offerings such as the Volvo S90, Jaguar XE and Kia Forte (Recall Peter Schreyer works for Kia now)

However, in Japanese culture, you look at something piece by piece.

For example, the Gen 4, you would look at the front end design on its own and see an aggressive yet friendly face (the creases on the hood and sharp headlight lines as aggressive bits and the pulled back headlight design and soft, rounded bumper as the friendly, approachable bits).

Same as the taillights. They form a distinctive nighttime signature (saw one on a dark stretch of I-5 near Portland and knew exactly what it is).

Granted, if you look at the rear as a whole, it looks a bit messy with the sharply angled taillights and the bulbous plastic add-on to the tailgate where the licence plate is.

As a whole, you wouldn't call a Gen 4 elegant, timeless or classy like some European cars. But take in the individual design elements and you see a car that's distinctively Japanese.

You can't say the same for the Camry which basically looks like an American car with a Japanese name. (Ditto the Accord and Altima). The Mazda6 looks Japanese in design. A pity there aren't more around.

A bit like some French cars in the past.

Gen 4 is very "in your face" on day one. The Citroen DS when introduced in the '50s was hated by some, adored by others. If you look at any one element of the DS, it looks strange - but stand back and look at it like you would an oil painting, and it is stunning. And of course someone will disagree - that's been the DS since the day it first appeared. I loved it when I saw my neighbour's when I was about 8-10 yr old, my Dad said it was horrible.

Same with the Gen 4 - look at the right angle from a distance to take in the entire car.

Well, this sucks. I was up in Yosemite yesterday and there were some spectacular maple trees gowned in gold curtained with the sheer granite cliffs. I should have thought to snap a few photos. I don't have ANY pictures of my car yet. Perhaps I'll get up there after the first snow storm. Blizzard Pearl EggBert and white capped granite cliffs? Ha!

Since this is a G4 room, we'll leave it at that.
    Can't argue with that.. :)

I remember when my second Granddaughter was born, we were in the hospital with some friends from church who were having their first child.
As soon as he could, the father brought his new son out for the obligatory oooooing and aaaaahing, but he was very concerned about something.
He was very afraid that people were not telling him that his new son was.....and there's no other way to phrase this.....an ugly baby.
I immediately searched my repertoire of life lessons to impart, but an older nurse spoke up with a decidedly Southern accent and said: "Darlin don't you worry about that right now. If people start telling you.....awwww, ain't he the sweetest thing, instead of Look how CUTE!..........then you'll know."

It seemed a little more practical than my:
    "There ARE no ugly babies...."

The G4 is a good car, and parents are overly worried about whether or not people that they don't even like think that their car is ugly or cute.

Besides.....it's what's on the INSIDE that counts, right?
The owner sits on the inside........ :p

I'm always prone to trot this out, at the drop of a hat, lol. And third gen, but who's counting. Wearing it's winter boots:

Absolutely gorgeous for its day. Amongst other things the Citroen DS had advanced hydro-pneumatic suspension which allowed rest wheel to be independently raised of the ground for changing a wheel. Another interesting fact was that the design was original offered to the British Motor Corporation (BMC) who thought it to futuristic, (or something) and wouldn't sell in UK. BMC group comprised former independent motor manufacturers Austin, Morris, (originators of the Mini range with two rivals - the Morris Mini and Austin 7) Wolesley and Riley. Over time and falling sales it it merged with Leyland to become British Leyland. That too evolved through Leyland DAF to obscurity.

Of course we all know that BMW bought the Mini brand and developed it to what it is today. Personally, I think they have lost the original charismatic design in the pursuit of perceived semi luxury. It used to be great to drive and always felt much faster than it really was with an 850cc engine, but it handled like a dream, gripping the road like sh*t to a blanket. Don't believe me? Look how many times it won the Monte Carlo Rally!

Have you ever driven behind a new Gen4 for a couple miles? I can't believe how small it looks. Like a little Disneyland car! With those tiny brake lights that are not nearly big enough or bright enough.

I never really noticed how small the car looks, until I was driving behind one.
How can I fit in that little thing!??:ROFLMAO:

But I like the profile. It looks great in profile. (Just like an old Ford Probe.)
