Price here has been $2.18 currently for regular. Since I have been filling from half a tank, the price hasnt been hurting me that much.

Nope. Self-service, a bit under $3. I think we might have higher gas taxes than some other states, to make up for the absence of an income tax. We are very regressive that way. If there's a full-service station in Spokane I don't know where it is. Last full-service station I saw was in Kaslo, B.C., Canada. That was on my way home from Revelstoke. Where I stood on glaciers and drank water right off the side of the mountain. I didn't know you could do that anywhere. Better water than I've ever had out of a tap. The day's not long off when we'll be going to war over water instead of gas.

Hate to start a conspiracy theory debate, but just wondering, are the biggest price drops coming at places with tight elections (for governor, senate, congress)? For CA there is really no contests; incumbents are likely going to win everything (hate to be a pessimist but most likely true). Those of you who enjoying $2 gas, you have a tight election at home?

See, SEE, I said long ago gas would drop back down to around $1.50 within the next 2-3 years, and stay there... It's TOTAL market manipulation, in many respects, it's very similar to the gas crisis of the 70's where people started whining about the downside of peak production, pretty much everything you're hearing today... Has very little to do with actual supply and demand.

But of course, I'm just a madman on the fringes of society, pay no attention to me.

Everybody, this is just the same seasonal dip we have at the end of every summer. Last year things were different what with the little storm in Louisiana, but if you look back at seasonal pricing, there is always a dip in the fall.

Assuming that cheap gas doesn't cause China to start consuming increasing large amounts of oil. They've been a net importer for a while now and they really havn't gotten going. If they had an economy similar to ours they would be consuming about 100 mbd (we consume about 20). That's about 15 mbd more than global production. It's pretty uncertain how much oil production can be ratcheted up but it seems really unlikely that it can be pushed up 15-20 barrels. Demand in Asian (including India) is moving up pretty fast. Hell, the EIA expects US consumption to increase 2% in 2007. So in the short term oil may get cheaper. It sounds like speculators' ability to drive up prices has run out of steam due to storage issues (i.e the lack of). That's a short term issue. Continued geo-political strife is the most likely short term reason for higher prices (that or Saudi Arabia comes out saying that their fields are in decline). We havn't reached peak oil, and it really is uncertain how far away from it we are, none-the-less, the energy scene is quite a bit different from the situation in the 1970's.

Anyway you look at it cheap gas is really bad for this country because that will just ensure that we import ever increasing amounts of it. Now Squid, as a conservative (at least that's how you project yourself here at PC) guy I'd expect you to be a bit concerned about this country's energy security and see cheap oil as a bad thing for the mid-term (definitely the long term).

Are as prices and supplies manipulated? Yes. But politicians don't control them. They only wish they did.

Yeah. Cheapest I've seen around here in awhile was $2.45 a few days ago. Same station (Arco) it was $2.49 this morning.
