A potential simpler approach than using Outlander wiper arm?

Normal wiper blade refill (like our Prius' front wipers) has this blade stop integrated:

Unfortunately, our rear wiper blade refill doesn't. It relies on the wiper arm's 2 ends to confine the blade. Which directly limits how long a refill can fit in there. Our current rear blade measures a lil' less than 16" (not the arm, just the blade). But as Steve has proven, there is enough glass area to use a 20" blade.

So, I wonder if this will work: We cut off the 2 ends on the rear wiper arm & somehow extend them outward 2" each end, then fit in a 20" blade (those w/ no integrated wiper ends).

 

Look at the rear wiper on European Prius

I just realized that the rear wiper in European Prius is very different from our fancy ones. Theirs is just like any normal wiper. Which means we can maximize the length easily by changing to larger wiper arm.
