I wouldn't say they're doing nothing. After all sitting on your hands can be quite tedious.

The Ford Spokesperson quoted in the Bloomberg.com report is known as "dumb and dumber".

Ford is introducing the 2010 Fusion Hybrid in December 2008. It will come with the second generation hybrid system that is more Americanized than Asian based for hybrid components. This has been a mjor reason for the delay. Ford's second generation system is modular designed so it can be "dropped" into almost any engine bay of any vehicle in the future. The current Escape Hybrid system is designed solely for the Escape. Look fo the Edge Hybrid system to arrive in 2010 and then the hybrid system to spread into other car platforms. Johnson Controls of the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area is possed to become the new hybrid battery supplier, replacing Sanyo. Asian Aw has been supplying the eCVT for the hybrid system and there is a "skunk works program" going on to replace this with an Americanized version in the future.

The PHEV Escape "charging system" is being co-developed with the California Electrical system in an attempt to create a variable charging module that can shut off during peak electrical demands and then resume charging during low demands the electrical grid. It is also being developed so the consumer can send "power" from the vehicle into the electrical grid. This research/development is scheduled to last until the Summer of 2010. From there to retail production is unknow but believed the Escape vehicle itself will undergo a major redesign before or with the introduction of the PHEV verison.
