not sure about number 1 but I tried everything to get a good TTS on the flyaudio unit but it cuts the first word off, for example it should say "turn right in 500 feet on to smith street" but only says "right in 500 feet on to smith street", it always cut the first word off, I believe the unit is not powerful enough

Yeah, it says maintenance. Strange. Do you want the guy's name and phone #? I probably have it written down somewhere. Let me know if you want me to dig it up.

Having used a Flyaudio HU for a while now, I noticed the following issues:

    1. The button that dims the HU lights is misspelled (DIMM vs. DIM). Not a big deal, of course.

    2. The lowest dim setting may be too bright for driving at night in certain environments (forests, unlit roads, etc.). Sometimes I just dim the unit to a dark setting.

    3. The sound quality is considerably better to me compared to the old stock HU because Flyaudio has mids and an equalizer, however, I noticed that the lowest lows setting is not as low as in the stock HU. It's actually lacking bass while listening to the radio, not so much while listening to an iPod but that's because iPod has its own equalizer. I may have to look into a sub or different speakers to get more bass for the radio.

    4. In equalizer mode, under "flat" setting the "loud" buttons are reversed in my opinion, i.e. if you want to make it louder, you have to press "-". Anyone noticed this problem, too?

    5. "Seek +" and "Seek -" do not work the same way it works in other cars where it scans for strong radio station signal either up or down the frequency. In Flyaudio, these buttons only switch from one stored radio station to another stored station within FM1 or FM2. There is a software "Scan" button but it works in a weird way, too. After tapping on it, it finds a station and if you do not store it in memory almost immediately, it will go on to the next station for a few seconds and then on to the next and so on. I wish there was a real button for that, not a soft button. You don't realize the need for it until you drive for long distances while in GPS mode and listening to radio when you start getting static due to the radio signal getting weaker and then you have to press "AV" button a couple of times to get to the radio and then "Scan" for new radio stations, and store them. Way too many steps and not safe to do while driving and not practical to stop every so often. Sometimes I just switch to a DVD mode (without DVD in it) to enjoy the silence while still getting GPS voice directions.

    6. "NAVI" and "DEST" buttons are redundant as all they do is start loading a GPS software. I wish it had a phone or Bluetooth button instead of “DEST”

    7. The "OPEN" button should really be renamed to "EJECT" (for CD/DVD) as that’s what it does.

    8. Some may not know this but pressing "PWR/VOL" button briefly will mute the sound. Pressing it again, will unmute it. This is not an issue, just a not very obvious feature.

    9. The GPS locks in satellites faster than any portable GPS I've ever had. It is possible to load any WinCE based GPS software. The original Odyssey GPS software the HU came with is obsolete and not supported any more since 2007. I installed iGo Primo and I love it even though Flyaudio cuts off the first word during directions. iGO primo is highly customizable and I believe there is a way to fix this problem, I just need to spend more time on researching how the software works as there is very limited documentation on the internet.

    10. The iPod graphical user interface is not very user friendly on Flyaudio. For example, if you have a large library, and you want to play a song/artist/album that starts with "z", you will have to scroll (page down) forever to reach it. There is no way to tap or jump to "z". It will be 4 artists/albums at a time per screen with a slight delay in between.

    11. Even though the radio support RDS, there is no way to save radio stations by their names (such as Kiss FM), only by frequencies (103.5).

I wonder if anyone else experienced similar problems with their Flyaudio HUs and maybe they are not problems at all, maybe I just don’t know how to fix them? If you know how, please let me know.

Given all these problems, I would still buy this product for its price as it’s a substantial improvement across the board compared to the stock HU.

    As for NAVI:

If you are in AV mode, pressing NAVI will load the GPS if it is the first time.
If it is loaded already it will simply switch you back to the GPS screen.
If you are in GPS mode already, pressing NAVI will switch you back to AV mode.

    As for DEST:
If you are in AV mode and press DEST, if the GPS is not loaded it will first load the GPS then switch to it.
If you are in GPS mode already, it will bring the GOTO screen.

Thanks for sharing the other info Senser.

This is funny, and as a computer geek, I'll just tell myself that's where the RAM is kept. Hehe.

Can you just turn the screen off completely if you don't necessarily need the screen? This is a concern I've always had with any head unit - and I'm sensitive enough to lights on the interior during night driving that it is always a concern for me. I may just get a matte screen protector that will cut the light output a bit or maybe fabricate some kind of cover if I need to cover it.

I notice in the pictures of the iPod interface that in the album listing there is both "previous" and "next" buttons, but there's also a bar on the left. Can you drag the scroll bar on the left rather than using the buttons? Obviously it won't populate the album names, but can you drag the scroll bar all the way to the bottom to essentially jump to the end of the listing?

Yes, you can. One of the DIM settings turns the screen off completely. If you get a screen protector, I am afraid the screen may be too dark in direct sunlight. I guess that's another problem I should've mentioned. The screen is not bright enough in direct sunlight even on the brightest setting.

I tried to drag the scroll bar but it did not scroll all the way to the bottom of the list. It did nothing. I may have too many music files or just not enough patience :)

I wonder if you don't have the latest BIOS (I believe you can find the newest updates on the Flyaudio site.

This video (I've built the time index into the link) shows the Prius FlyAudio storing a radio station by the name:

FlyAudio for 2009-2010 Toyota Prius - YouTube

Also, in terms of the iPod, this is what I'm talking about. Obviously, this isn't a Prius unit (and as was mentioned above may have a faster processor than the Prius unit), but here you see him jump within his playlist listing using the side bar. The interface may not be as fast on our units, but it looks like the same overall interface, so I'd think the functionality would be similar (though possibly not as usable if the unit is too slow to scan the iPod, which is maybe why it's impossible to find a video of the Prius unit using the side scroller). I have more than a few hundred albums on my iPod so being able to jump around is somewhat important to me (though I could do a better job of managing them into grouped playlists to make them more accessible I suppose).

The unit I got runs off a SAMSUNG processor. And its like 350 cheaper than rosen. Maybe I will eat those words and see if the $650 was a bummer. But it comes with one year warranty and there in California so they speak english well (im asian and no tech support from china is hard) and seemed to be confident. Said if it doesn't work they will offer me a full refund

As far as I know you'll be the first person on the forum to get that new Ottonavi unit. Once you have it installed you should start a new thread and post some pictures of the interface and install, that would definitely be helpful.

Seems the website is down. I think because it got hacked. Got an email from my cc co about a weird purchase and told them I made no UK transaction. But I did get my unit. Just need to get it installed and my new cc.

    Hi Guys,

I just purchased this Flyaudio system for my 2011 Prius. I am very happy with the purchase but i cant seem to get a cd to go in. It will start to take it in until its barley sticking out, and then it will kick it back out and take it back in, then eject it. Very weird. Was seeing if anyone else is having this issue.

Also is there anyway to get the AUX port that is in the console to work when this unit is hooked up? It was working for me on my stock radio.

    Thanks for the help

    Nick,
iPod: there's a setting in the Setup menu where you need to choose if you want iPod or AUX input. Both work but not at the same time. The AUX is very nice because it is also a video in input. So you can connect your phone or any device with video and soud output. Obviously, the AUX input in the console won't work; doesn't have video anyway. Unless you do some kind of mod of course...

Bluetooth: this is just for phone calls. No music audio streaming (A2DP) on this unit.
