For Gen 3 Toyota USA recommends to change oil and filter at 10k miles or 12 months. For the same Gen, Toyota Canada recommends 8000 kms (~5000 miles) or 6 months.

Before we go there, virtually all Canadians are within 100 kms of US border. And the states includes Alaska.

Well, for what it's worth, i did it. (again!) I changed the oil at 1600k km. It was glitter-ish and the oil filter had too much crap for my tastes. I used my handy oil filter cut out tool to check the innards of the factory 90915-10009 filter they use as genuine parts in japan and, unsurprisingly, the paper element inside it seems to be wayyy better then those knock off YZZ parts they sell around here.. It had, if i remember well, 64 pleats vs 40 for the YZZF1 that i'm using. It wasn't the same media also, the F1 has a yellow-ish media and the 10009 has a bright red media. semi-synthetic perhaps? IDK. As for the oil, i used Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w20, not that it matters.. I just happen to have a lot of it.

As for that Youtuber, his name is Lake Speed Jr. He's a Tribologist and he is a very knowledgeable dude.

I have some pictures of the cut open filters from my 2021 Prime (YZZF1) and the OE from my 2024 (10009) if someone is interested. I might post them here later.. As Gokhan stated, the filter stopped that crap.. however, not before it passed thru my oil pump's gears... well not anymore.

That's the been the case since November 30th (a month ago today, big woop), when the server was replaced. My workaround is to upload to a google drive, post a link here.

Put a magnetic drain plug in and you'll see just how much of the small stuff almost all filters miss......

They are sediments at the bottom of the oil pan. They can't get back into the engine without going through the oil filter.

They use Denso oil filters, made in China now for factory install, Thailand for parts counter. I prefer the Thailand although all are from Denso factories and should be good. I just don’t buy a product from China if possible.

I can 100% confirm that my factory filter was made in Japan.

I can 100% confirm my 2020 Prime factory filter was made in China. Red valve and everything. I don’t have my filter anymore. If you could show the can on yours and made in Japan? They may have started producing them in Japan, but they were not. I still have like eight of the old Japan made with thick element and nylon center cage I bought for the 07. Those were in a category of their own.

It’s a Denso factory. “China” doesn’t make oil filters. It could be many factors involved why they started making them in Japan now. Mine was China, I think another member said this also. Mine was made during 2020, covid year.

Denso has oil-filter factories in Japan, Thailand, and China.

The OEM factory-installed oil filter is the Chinese Denso 90915-10003. In the US, they only sell the Thai Denso 90915-YZZN1, which used to be 90915-YZZF2 before that and 90915-YZZA2 even before that.

I am pretty sure that the Chinese Denso 90915-10003 has a higher quality than the Thai Denso 90915-YZZN1 because (1) it is the factory oil filter, not the US-dealer oil filter, and (2) the part numbers with letters in them are usually secondary or substitute, sometimes third-part-made, OEM parts. However, in this case, they are both made by Denso but in different factories. The factory in China is the newest and biggest.

Japanese Denso OEM oil filters used to be totally different with entirely different type of filter elements, with clearly higher quality than the basic OEM 90915-YZZN1 and similar oil filters.

So that is the difference here, the 2024 owner says his is a 0009, while the gen 4 came with 0003. I thought it was 0003 on mine but couldn’t remember for sure. Although in the picture his oe looks shorter.
I think I am going to go to Fram xg4967, to try. Some N1 have been seen with cracked seals, looks like center tube was tilted during manufacturing. It should be able to see the defect with a flashlight through the inlet holes if there is a cracked seal. Rare to see a defect in a Denso Thailand filter.
Denso makes the aftermarket filters in the new factory in China, which like before are a different filter than Toyota branded.

Yes. The moment i'm home i'll take a Picture and post it here. I'm now using a Toyota F1 as i could get like 10 of them while i still worked at toyota for 4.xy$ each. Plus the F1 fits perfectly there, holds a little bit more oil and the bypass valve has the same setting. I figured the F1, for the same price, has more capacity and theoretically, less restriction as it's bigger...

I might change for some Fram Ultras when my stack will be empty... or not. A friend of mine might be able to catch some F1 a employee price still..

Fram Ultra is an excellent oil filter. The larger XG3614 would probably fit as well. I am not sure about the even larger XG3600.

It looks like the 90915-10009 with rectangular holes superseded the 90915-10003 with round holes just like the 90915-YZZN1 with rectangular holes did the 90915-YZZF2 with round holes.

Don’t know if it has been posted but I noticed a local dealer sells online the 90915-10003 oil filter, $7.08 discount price. A few dollars more than the N1 which is also sold.
I wonder if the N1 is having issues because they didn’t sell the 10003 before. I ordered some but am having regrets.

90915-YZZN1 (Thailand) and 90915-10003 (China) are both current oil filters, possibly identical other than the country of manufacture.

That's what my nearby dealership parts department always gives me (have the spin-on conversion).

The 10003 is on the car from the factory. Different price, different part number. I know they have a red silicone adbv. I will see the new one when it arrives. I think the N1 is having problems, and why I was going to try an Ultra. I don’t think the N1 I put on is holding the oil from draining down well enough. They weren’t both being sold before. That’s why I made the post.
