Very well said here. I agree, since back then, vehicles were running on carburetors and the engine was running on lead fuel and harmful products that made the vehicle break down quicker so you had to do the oil change and service maintenance early. Today's vehicles, things last longer and not required to be so up tight about maintenance. Most of today's vehicle problem is TSB and recalls, not much about not doing their maintenance. If you have common sense, your vehicle will last along time.

    Cars are not airplanes.

My profession was Electronics Engineering Technician with some side training in mechanics and physics. I rebuilt my first engine about 55 years ago. I don't claim to be an "expert" in anything......but I do think I'm pretty good at picking out those who ARE....versus those who just think they are. :)

It's funny how someone can come to your conclusions on the BS meter based on advice about early first oil change and maintaining vehicles on a more through schedule.

Yea...aircraft are just a little more critical. It's obvious my years of rebuilding and maintaining small residential and commercial motors, light truck and car engines/transmissions/most other components, Jet engines, aircraft structure repair, aircraft and car wiring installation/repair/modification, avionics, landing gear, flight controls, various panels actuators and servos...the list goes on and on...does not meet "your" qualifications.

Just remember next time you fly somewhere, people like us take our job very seriously to keep you, our friends, our families and the general flying public safe on the mechanical end of things while you're up there...and that I just might know a little more about simple things like proper car maintenance than yourself.

...and you've been a member here since what, Sunday? Think you're the one that needs to lighten up.

    Your car, your choice. ;)

So I assume you change the aircraft oil sooner than recommended by Boeing?

I thank you for taking your job seriously and for you and other airplane mechanics that keep millions safe everyday, Cheers to you!:)

I'm sure you can put a 30 yr old 737 next to a new 737 fresh from Boeing's factory and they will look similar in many respects. However with updated technology, I'm sure they each have different maintenance cycles, even when compared to when the 30 yr old aircraft was new, and the new 737 will also be more fuel efficient than the old one.

I still find recent youtube videos out professing 3,000 mile oil changes. While that is still true for older cars made in pre-unleaded gas days, it's out of line with newer cars, especially those made to run on synthetic oils and lubricants from day one. To me, local mechanics and "jiffylube" joints still beating that drum are just doing it to get into my wallet without providing me any benefit, assuming they even know to use the right oil to begin with.

Maybe a small apology is in order.
Did I make any reference to BS in this thread, about this subject that might have
    been directed at you ?
    If so, I am sorry.

OTOH, if you took a comment of mine about BS in a different thread, on a different subject and then inferred that a comment here meant something similar..........you shouldn't and it didn't.

Boy frodoz, you are something else... I know it's difficult for you to accept that people don't automatically think your word is gold but come on, you don't have to be so sensitive or defensive when there are differences of opinion. I'm sure you are good at what you do, but your cheap put downs aren't helping you here.

Thank you for the check. I did over do it a bit, and for that my apologies. Post edited.

I do however stand fast behind my recommendations...but then it's your car, your choice...as I have said all along.

I feel like this thread is going no where, I suggest we should just ignore each other because obviously, I feel like everyone's attacking each other, just move on and get back to the subject since this thread feels like it's getting off topic, thank-you.

Dark ages? Are you sure about that, there are cars built in the 70's that are better made then any new engine made today. Mercedes and BMW come to mind. Mercedes V8's and BMW streight 6's are some of the best engines made, and they run on Dino oil. Now there was a little car company in 1983 that had a vision to build the best car in the world, it became the Lexus LS 400, you can't find a better car made in 1989 or today. So the dark ages did create some fine engines/cars. By the way the recommended oil change on the Lexus is 5,000 miles. 5,000 miles is the max I will go on any car with any oil.

If an OCI is on the long side, or the car's engine is suspect or conditions are harsh, an oil analysis would seem prudent.

orenji, yes, they were some great cars and engines. When compared to their new counterparts, they required much more service and maintenance. Lexus service schedule for 2014 is now 10k mile between oil changes. Prior years some models were at 5k mile intervals. Obviously new model year service schedules should not be applied to previous years if they are different.

    I withdraw my apology.
With un-called for, insulting and condescending comments like that,
I don't think you command any respect at all.

Easy, easy rider, you can't take back an apology once its been accepted, that is just wrong. This thread is getting long in the tooth.
