We will see. It looks like most of them are staying in Japan at the moment. The US got 100 out of the first batch of 600. If this rate stays, don't expect many delivered this year. My dealer didn't get any in the first batch and will only get one in the second batch in February; so, things don't seem to be speeding up.

I don't think they will be able to produce anywhere near 30,000 units in 2023.

I wouldn't call it this soon. It's only January and they might just be working through production kinks as part of their QC in the early stages. We don't have any here in Canada yet. I would expect production to ramp up during the year. We're talking about the largest automotive manufacturer here.

Which is the norm, and a trickle coming off the line will become hundreds then thousands quickly.

I was actually expecting all this early production to go to Japan.

The final out the door price is $41,801.00 for my XLE.

I put a deposit of $500 and signed all the documents in the financial office just like I bought the car already. A few dozens signatures on their desk big digital screen (looks pretty cool) and hard copies.

So, you paid for the car before it has been delivered to you?? When are they going to deliver it?

I paid the deposit only, the remaining balance is $41,301.00 will be paid when the car is delivered at the dealership. For me, they will accept $5K by credit card and the rest by personal check (no cashier check needed).

    Around $5K above $32,778.

I think these numbers are ludicrous; if Toyota is going to stick to 35,000 US allocation, they're playing directly into the dealership markup games, and they're also playing a risky game with the car even at MSRP not much below, say, a Tesla 3 Long Range AWD on five year cost of ownership given tax incentives. They could mitigate it if they'd increase production targets, and provide some actual configurability for customers. For example, could they give some clarity on spare wheel availability, a really important feature for many and simply not practical on a Tesla? Could they offer 17" wheels as an option on XLE and Limited trims in the way they offered 15's mounted on alloys on the outgoing model, for those that want some compliance in their ride and a little more tire selection? Will the Prime get the standard LE's more generous trunk space and the option of mounting a spare, or are they going to do another slab battery in the trunk?

With each successive generation, I get the sense Toyota is increasingly out of touch with with their potential customers.

    Yikes !!!
Tapatalk doesn't show your location - but thinking (example) if this was a California buy? That would be .... with sales tax ... roughly $50K. For a Prius?!?! Suddenly, with ~50k miles on our current 5yr old rplugin, the waiting game for us just began.
Not so certain it's Toyota so much as it is the traditional dealership model. Even back in the 1970s when the first rotary engine sport car came out there were ridiculous markups.

Oh OK my bad - many don't count sales tax when they talk out the door.

toyota said they can increase production if necessary, but they don't want to get caught with their pants down. again.
as much as some of us priuschatters have potential interest, there's a whole world of drivers out there that don't.
and it remains to be seen if looks and hp are enough to make a substantial sales increase

I have my doubts that we will see more than one Prius and/or one Prius Prime a month at any US dealer any time before September this year.

And @bisco, you said that someone claimed to have seen a truckload of Gen 5 Priuses being delivered to a US dealer. ;)

    1200 dealers = 30 cars each / 12 = 2 1/2 / month
