are you getting the kwh charge off the bill, or dividing the total bill by the number of kwh used?

    who is your supplier?

Oops...second look... it's ~$.22 at the house as well. These bills are complicated! So nearly $1.50 to charge :(
    comparable to ~$3.00 / gallon

I pay 14 cent per kwH (could have it for 13 cents, but am paying 1 cent extra to get green electricity from renewable resources to drive as carbon neutral as possible).
I have my Prime for two weeks now, so still have some beginner questions: how much kW does it take for a full charge from zero?

It draws about 6.2-6.5 kWh from the wall depending on the temperature and whether or not it needs to pre-heat before charging or cool during charging. It will draw slightly more if you leave it plugged in after it has fully charged in the winter, as it keeps the battery at optimal operating temperature, so use the charge schedule to set a departure time. This will also promote good long-term battery health. Enjoy!

A comparison to a single previous electric bill is not very accurate. Typically electricity use varies from month to month, so you don't know how much variance was already there before you added the plug-in. You would typically need to compare same-month year to year or meter the charging plug (Kill-O-Watt will do it). From your estimate you are putting in 11 KWh per charge, which exceeds the capacity of the battery for charging by about 50%.

I know it's an Old thread. But I have been enjoying relatively low electric bills for the past three months. I have not been charging my PRIME for a while since our electricity rate went up at the beginning of the year and gas price stayed low. Currently my break even point is about $2.64/gal for gas price. And our current gas price is $2.59.

If the recent trend continues, you will soon be plugging in. Out gas went from $2.49 to $2.69 in the past couple of weeks.

Here in LA gas prices are now $3.75.

I am not charging for this week. I just changed my snow tires to all season OEM tires. I am checking mpg difference between two different tires on gas only HV drive. After that, I will start my summer charging ritual.

Should get better. I played the odds and didn't get snow tires when I bought the car at the end of Feb. Fortunately no quantity of snow on days I needed to drive. Things will change come November. There was a definite hit with winter tires on the Gen II, additional hit with the cold winter temps.

Yeah, early numbers are already suggesting I am getting more than 10mpg improvement over winter drive with snow tires. Off course most of that is attributable to temperature, but when I did a similar comparison on my previous Gen3, the difference was negligible between OEM tires during winter vs Michelin Xice 3 snow. PRIME seems to be more sensitive to tire difference.

Federal carbon tax kicked in April 1.

Prices now range from $1.119 to $1.679/litre across the country.

That's $3.16 to $4.75/gal at today's exchange rate (CAD$1 = USD$0.7467) and I don't believe we have summer fuel blend yet... it should be coming soon.

Ouch. Where are those really high prices? IIRC when we were in New Brunswick in January the price was around CAD 1.13/litre. Will have the chance to look again in a week and a half.
