Untill @Zojja or someone else with a Touring model posts a pic of the 17" rims with plastic pieces pulled off, I'll continue to disagree with this. In the spy photos there are very utilitarian looking "lugs" at the junction of each spoke and the rim. They are similar, maybe otherwise identical, but look very unfinished when bare, due to these lugs.

 

Thank you for posting this rim! When I purchased mine I hoped I could rip the plastic inserts off at home. Its a good looking rim, and would enhance the look of my car. I might need to take it in to a tire shop, remove the tires and see what is holding them in.

I don't think the mules had the same rim. The spokes are curved or indented, not flat and smooth.

 

Yeah I suspect the gentlest way to remove the plastic pieces would be to first remove the wheel and then push them off from the inside. If you do, please post a picture!

In the interim, I found a slightly higher res mule car pic, upsampled a bit. Besides the (pair) of lugs at each spoke to rim junction, there appears to be a ledge running around each opening, to stabilize the plastic piece.

I don't think it's a "killer" to the Gen 4 Prius, but looking at those pictures, I have to say, I'm just not that thrilled with that rear end look. And it's only really disappointing because I think Toyota did a great job everywhere else.

Maybe it will grow on me. But "still" when I see it? My first reaction is that it looks like someone took a focus group list and tried to add everything on the list into one design. It just looks like trying to do too much. Is it sporty? Is it utilitarian? Utlimately? I just don't like it that much.

I'll give it this much credit. If Toyota's goal was to leave something as an Iconic Signature as a "Prius", that rear end is unique.

 

I'm new to Prius'. In 2007-8 I was courting a Diesel Ford Focus, having glanced at Prius briefly. At the time, I thought they looked ODD. But, with ½ the TAXIs on the road being Prius', as well as many Government vehicles, I've got used to them. And - there are some other quite ODD looking cars on the road (eg Toyota Corolla/Auris and Yaris, only a mother would love).

I guess that Gen4 is going to be looking a bit ODD till we've got used to seeing them.

They're being released in Australia in 6 days, 7 hours, 8 minutes and 44 seconds, so I've a bit of a wait to see one.

 

After driving manual transmission vehicles my entire life, I picked up a 2016 midnight black Prius Two Eco Saturday afternoon. Yes, the vehicle has a very distinctive look that can be very polarizing. I have not seen them on the roads where I live to date. But I must admit I really like the crazy lightening bolt lights in the back as it is very visually catching.

I may not set any land speed records anytime soon, but in the few days of having one, I enjoy it very much, yet feel there is so much I need to learn about how to drive as efficiently as possible.

 

Apparently Toyota is changing the white console to a more traditional darker color. Saw a couple of dark consoles this week at a dealer (who interestingly can't keep them in stock). The overall look is decent, one that grows on you. I always like a silver Prius and now the Blue.

 

From the outset I believe the level 2 didn't have the white console. Could the dark consoles you saw be 2's? If not, if they were other levels, that'd be great.

Toyota can't win either way.

Make them boring looking and people complain its boring like the 1st, 2nd and 3rd gen.

Make them too agreesive and people complain it's too futurist, like the 4th gen.

My favorite part of the 4th gen is the back 3/4 side like in my avatar. The front needs some fog lights to round it out.. The 4 without foglights looks really lame.

 

The black wouldn't look too bad without fog lights I have been trying to stay away from black but may reconsider.
