Finally! How to program a SKS key fob with SKS functionality

Reporting back. I can't get it to work fully. The new key fob starts the car, it locks and unlocks the doors, and the SKS functionality works. Unfortunately, I'm not able to program the car to accept an additional key with it.

I also can't figure out how I programmed it in the first place. I've tried several times to repeat the process without success. Hopefully I didn't deactivate the programming capability of the original key somehow. Both keys lock, unlock, and start the car. I just hope I don't lose either one over the life of the car, as replacement might be more difficult.

 

I got partial success...I can get the Prius to go in to some kind of mode, and I can get the prius to react to my new (from my old prius) key, but I can't get it to acknowledge it as a master key.

What I mean by that is that I can press a button on the new remote and the prius locks and unlocks twice....this is after holding both lock and unlock together on the new key as per instructions.

However, no final success. I'm taking it to Toyota. It should only be half an hour of labor.

Edit: I should report this is for my 2007 prius w/sks.

 

I ran my key through the washing machine but the key still unlocks the door but the car doesn't recognize the key. Do I need to re-program the key?

 

I tried doing the procedure BUT can only get into add mode by putting my foot on the brake and cycling through the power button.
When I take the master key out, the car does 2 unlock/lock cycles which is the add feature. Here is where Im stuck. I press "any key" on the master key and it only does what the key is meant for...it doesnt do an unlock/lock cycle.

I have a 2007 prius and two key fobs, both of the silver logo variant. I'm the only owner for the car, and I got both keys at the same time from the dealer when I bought the car. There's been no additions to the car (i.e. no aftermarket add-ons).

A few weeks back I noticed both keyfobs were reducing in their range. After a while I couldn't unlock / lock using the keyfob. About a week ago I noticed that I had to start putting the keyfob into the car, even though the SKS was on.

Finally I had some time last night and replaced the batteries in the fobs, and now they don't seem to work 100%.

What I can do:
Use the key fob to lock/unlock via the push buttons.

What I can't do:
Start the car

Thinking that I might need to re-program the SKS - I read the ]Finally! How to program a SKS key fob with SKS functionality" thread, but I'm not sure which of the two keys is the master key. I've tried the instructions but can't seem to get past step 9. I've tried to confirm my keyfobs but I don't get the confirmation.

Also the 12 V seems to be dying (dimmer lights, etc)

Any other ideas on what to try.

Again - i have the two original keys that came with the car, and since i replaced the C3032 battery i can't start my car.

 

For some reason the attachment pdf file is not working anymore. Is there any way someone can repost the instructions? Even if I can reprogram a new key with no SKS function I will be happy, I just want this key working because my car only came with one key and I need a back-up.

 

Isn't it funny though, how WE know what other's profit margin needs to be ... but NO one understands what OUR profit margin needs to be. Bottom line . . . shop around.

I know this is a zombie thread, but since elou dug it up - I just had to throw in my 2¢ .

Still waiting on directions on programming an sks key without Techstream! If anyone has the attachment pdf, can you please repost it please? I would like to try out this method before going to the dealer.

 

I found this, but can't imagine it works:
Instructions

1. Starting the Prius
   
   • 1
     Insert the current fob into the dashboard slot, then remove it. Repeat this sequence three more times for a total of four "in/out" sequences. Insert the fob a fifth time and leave it inserted.
   • 2
     Open and close the driver's door a total of six times.
   • 3
     Remove the old fob from the slot. The Prius is now in fob programming mode.
   • 4
     Insert the new fob and let it remain in the slot. Watch the blinking red light on the dashboard. When the light stops blinking and goes out, the new fob is programmed.
   • 5
     Remove the new fob. Test both fobs to ensure they work properly.
   Programming Door Lock/Unlock
   
   • 6
     Open the unlocked Prius driver's door. (It doesn't matter if the other doors are unlocked or not.)
   • 7
     Insert and remove the present fob into the dashboard slot twice within five seconds.
   • 8
     Close and open the driver's door twice, then remove the old fob.
   • 9
     Insert and remove the old fob again once.
   • 10
     Close and open the driver's door twice again.
   • 11
     Insert the old fob in the slot, get in the Prius, and close the driver's door.
   • 12
     Press the power button without pressing the brake pedal, wait a second, press the power button again, wait another second, and press the power button a third time to turn the car off. Wait a second, press the power button yet again, wait a second, press it once more to again turn the car off.
   • 13
     Open the door, exit the Prius, and remove the old fob from the slot. The "add mode" is now engaged. (The Prius should automatically lock and unlock the doors twice to verify "add mode" is activated.)
   • 14
     Press both buttons on new the fob simultaneously and hold both down for a second and a half. Within three seconds of releasing the buttons, press just the lock button. The Prius should respond by locking/unlocking the doors. This verifies that the new fob is working.
   • 15
     Exit the programming mode by opening the door or putting a fob in the slot.

The above is close. See this thread (post #88). It will work but the fob has to be a "new""virgin (never used)" fob from a dealer.

I was able to program it fully on my 2008. and programmed a transponder key I got from a Tampa Prius Specialist.

After looking for "chicken dance" and found no less than three variations. After trying for over an hour totally without any catastophic failures, this is what worked for me:
2009, SKS.

1. Open the driver door with no fob in slot and the doors unlocked.​

2. Insert old fob into slot and remove it twice within 5 seconds. ​

3. Close and open driver door twice. ​

4. Insert and remove old fob once.​

5. Close and open driver door twice again. ​

6. Insert old fob in slot and close door.​

7. Without pressing the brake, press power button, wait a second, press it again, wait a second, press it a third time to turn car back off. ​

8. Remove old fob from slot. You'll be in "add mode" at this point. ​

9. Car should lock and unlock doors twice to verify it is in add mode. (indiacting "mode 2")​

10. Press and hold both buttons on OLD fob simultaneously for a second and a half. (door locks cycle)​

11. Press and hold both buttons on NEW fob simultaneously for a second and a half. (door locks cycle)​

11. WAIT 3 seconds, press just the lock button on new fob. ​

12. Car should respond with one quick lock/unlock to verify that the new fob is all set. This may take a moment or two.​

13. To end this programming, open a door or put fob in the slot. ​

An interesting FYI... ALL FEATURES WORK. and When starting with the new fob, the hazards blink once before starting. I can live with that ​
