Filling the gas tank

I fill up a various stations.
Once in a while, as soon as I start pumping, it trips.
I try again and it trips again.

Then is when I spin the nozzel handle upside-down and it pumps ok and trips when I expect it to.

So there is no real advantage to filling up when you hit the Half-Full mark, other than being a little better prepared when the "Big One" hits?

And you're less likely to run out of gas if you fill up before you get low.
