    Feel-good moments

    1) Looking forward to beating my old mpg rating and consistently getting >55mpg per tank. That implies that I actually look forward to driving it even to work :)

    2) My friend recently got a tC so when he winds me up about the battery/kit car I call him a mustang-like cheap pseudo-cultured hick. Then I tell him 55mpg and he gets cross.

    3) Driving quietly and hearing all the instruments quietly orchestrated by the Prius CPU. Alternatively I sneak up behind pedestrians using on battery only and wait for a couple of seconds until they realize they're on my way and think Wth did that come from

    4) Showing off the rear view camera.

    Feel-bad moments

    1) Being tailgated by retards in their pickup trucks

    2) Making the car payments

    3) Dealer overfilling oil

Whatever was he thinking about when he bought that thing? Several weeks ago I heard on NPR that the biggest complaint of the new owners of the hummers is the low gas mileage. Really?

I know many Prius owners (not hard to find in West Los Angeles) and I am confident that all of them bought their Prius with the specific intent of making some kind of a statement unlike, apparently, a good number of the Land Rover - Hummer crowd.

I went to a conference with my advisor and a colleague. It was a 7 hour drive. On the way back, we stopped for lunch. My advisor wanted to get something out of the car, so I gave him the key and said "just touch the front door handle, it will beep and then open the door". He came back and said "It beeped a lot". I said "It should just beep twice". He said "Are you sure it doesn't need your fingerprint?".

I was asked to take part of a local "real people, real savings" campaign for Toyota in Southern California and they used me for commercials and billboards here for the Prius. Some of you in Southern California may have seen me on billboards and commercials... nothing like sharing why I love the prius with the public! :p

At a party several people turned to me and asked "What kind of mileage do you get?"

I sighed, and said, "Well, on my last tank I only got 54"

Jaws dropped. Gasps and shocked looks. "Miles per gallon???"

    "Yes".

I was leaving work Friday night, and was parked two spaces away from a man reading a book in his car, sitting with the window open. I started the car and just sat for a while kinda relaxing before going home. It was very warm, so the ICE shut off pretty quickly. When I was ready to go I shifted into reverse and started to back up. As I was looking behind me I caught a glimpse of his face. He must have thought he was seeing things as I backed up silently and drove away. The look of shock on his face was priceless. Oh what a feeling.

My favorite "smug moment" was when a guy pulls up next to me at a light in his totally tricked out, top of the line Escalade. (gold wheels, gold emblems etc.)

He asked me for directions. I reached over to my GPS screen and tapped, tapped and then told him. He and his girl looked at me with palpable envy. I guess their $45,000 Escalade didn't have that. LOL.

I was cruising along at 48 MPG when some dolt pulled out in front of me. I laid on the horn in a futile effort, hoping the clod would see or hear me. As I manuevered away from the intruding car I continued to lean on the horn, and curse the idiot driver and his mama.

I didn't notice that the heel of my hand had activated the voice command control, so I was startled when her voice came on, asking me to "State Your Command." In the heat of the moment, I let her have it too with a couple of well-chosen phrases. I guess she figured out what I needed and the A/C kicked on, lowering the temperature several degrees.
