Chad- Good point we probably want to capture conversions to plug-in.
    >>Can you summarize your understanding of PiP incentives for Louisisana?

Depsite my reputation as a Nor'easter, I actually was busted flat in Baton Rouge for 2 years. I really wasn't busted flat, but I would have been had I relocated any new cars to LA. As I recall Louisiana re-charged sales tax for vehicles moving into the state. Can you possibly imagine relo of a Volt or better yet a Teslsa Model S to LA @ 11% sales tax?

The IRS web site Qualified Vehicles Acquired after 12-31-2009 is incorrect for Toyota.

It probably wouldn't hurt to leave it alone and let the IRS to sort out their end.

    Hey I need more states.
Can someone summarize CO or WV or GA PiP incentives?
I want to next cover a state with max benefits, NJ being the state with minimum incentives.
Common NJ - holy Mackeral let's do something besides comment on NFL refs, for Pete's Sake, how about a Prius PiP rebate? I can safely say this, as a former NJ concerned citizen activist.

Considering a new untitled plug in prius to replace my 2008 Prius.
My understanding is that The 4.4 kwh battery in the prius does not capture the full available tax credit due to low battery size.
Enginer now offers a range extender (8kwh) additional battery for the 2012 plug in Prius.
My question is if I have the 8kwh additional battery added before initial vehicle registration and title, can I capture the additional tax credit for the added battery. ($417 per kwh or $3,456). This tax credit addition would still be under the max $7500 but would go a long way to pay the $5500 of the Enginer plug in system cost.
    Thanks - any advice appreciated.

do not know. But the first step would be to contact the folks at Enginer.
Also a battery expert on this site such as Sielerts may chime in.
A few weeks back someone posted a petition looking to advocate for adding credits for after-market battery augmentation.
So I think I know the answer but not 100% sure.

Indiana gives you a sales/use tax exemption.

    IN S 304
Provides a sales and use tax exemption for the purchase or lease of a new qualified plug-in electric vehicle if the retail transaction occurs from July 1, 2011, through December 31, 2016

I didn't research the actual Indiana website but found the info along with other states "click here".

This isn't any of the states you mentioned, but PA has a rebate program. It's only $1000 for the PIP, but hey, it's something! Details can be found at Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant

Nope, PA wasn't a launch state. I got mine in Maryland. But that's not to say PA dealerships haven't managed to get their hands on PIPs from another state.

I'm in MD - and just bought a 2012 Plug-In. Was told all of the tax credits have been 'used up'
    Is that true?

For darn sure you do have the Federal $2500 tax credit.
As far as State of Maryland excise tax credit, recently Prius Chatters have mentioned getting it, but let's find out for sure from another MD'er. Link below says good til 6/2013

so - there is no 'limit' to federal tax credits for each manufacturer?
    the dealer seemed pretty certain...

I think the quota is 200,000 units for each manufacturer. There is no danger of it being exhausted any time soon :)

...you should be good to go for a PiP! you should expect $2500 tax credit federal (assuming you have a tax owed) and you should expect somewhere around $1800 excise tax reduction in MD. That is among the best deals out there as far as states go. For pricing I look at CarMax.com in Laurel MD as they have new Toyotas incl PiP for no haggle prices.

    In the state of GEORGIA:

The Plug-in Prius qualifies for the Alternative Fuel TAG (single occ. HOV/ Free HOT lane access)
but DOES NOT qualify for the GA Alternative Fuel TAX CREDIT.
    Makes no sense at all.

At least GA isn't willing to go into debt like some other States.

If you bought, not leased, and if you are the first purchaser of the car, and if you have income tax to offset, you are good to go on 2500.
