RAV-4 Hybrid
Source: First Drive: 2017 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid | TheDetroitBureau.com
The 2017 RAV4 Hybrid combines the power from a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine and a small high-torque electric motor through its transaxle. The software does some essential work but the RAV4 Hybrid delivers combined 194 system horsepower and Toyota maintains the RAV4 Hybrid can jump from zero to 60 mph in 8.1 seconds.
Of course, the RAV4 hybrid needs some extra power to carry around the electric motors battery pack, but the extra weight is put to good use in the vehicles driving dynamics. Toyota also has bolstered the RAV4 Hybrid’s suspension and regenerative braking pack for some additional stopping power, which is welcome because over the years, I’ve found Toyota brakes feel somewhat soft but that’s not the case with this vehicle.
The driving feel is also good. Steering in any SUV is never as...bwilson4web May 4, 2017 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 3,193 Likes: 2 Replies: 14 -
Consumer Reports love-hate relationship on Tesla
Tesla earns highest ranked American car brand by Consumer Reports
It must drive CR nuts ... blasting Tesla quality issues, yet the nutty owners love their rides anyway.
From the chart, Porsche is sort of in the same boat ... quality doesn't match up with CR's claim of "unreliable"

California road tax bill
Source: Green Car Congress: California Governor signs $52B fuel tax and vehicle fee bill for transportation infrastructure; $100 ZEV fee
California Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. signed into law SB1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. The bill will raise $52.4 billion over the next decade through an increase in fuel taxes and vehicle fees—including on zero emission vehicles (ZEVs)—to fix roads, freeways and bridges in communities across California and put more dollars toward transit and safety.
The package is funded in the following ways:
- $7.3 billion by increasing diesel excise tax 20 cents (currently $0.13) on 1 November 2017.
- $3.5 billion by increasing diesel sales tax to 5.75% on 1 November 2017.
- $24.4 billion by increasing gasoline excise tax 12...

Electronic Design: EVSE
Source: EV Success Hinges on Smarter, Faster Charging Stations
The bad news is that EVs are marginally viable because of their high cost and short range. However, progress is being made on these limitations in light of new vehicles from General Motors (Chevy Bolt), Tesla (Models S and 3), and others. Range is still limited to 100 to 200 miles or so, and battery-charging time is excessive. Electric vehicles (EVs) face stiff competition from traditional internal-combustion vehicles with the low gasoline prices, and the broad network of gas stations that can pump fuel into vehicles in minutes compared to the few hours of charging required to achieve a full charge in an electric vehicle.
The good news is that EVs are fast, silent, and have zero...bwilson4web May 2, 2017 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 1,057 Likes: 0 Replies: 0 -

Nice Ford Plug-In Article
Source: Plug-in hybrid owner tops 500 mpg | Local Government | journalstar.com
That was Harish Singh’s goal when he leased the new car three years ago. He wanted to get 101 miles per gallon of gasoline with that plug-in hybrid. This is the type of articles we need to see in the popular press.
He’s already beat that goal, averaging just more than 500 mpg last year, when he drove about 14,000 miles and filled up at the gas station just once.
Singh is passionate about his car, about using less gasoline and about the joy of owning a plug-in hybrid that gives you the best of both worlds.

Electric Vans from German Postal Carrier
Source: German Postal Carrier May Enter Commercial Electric Van Business
Deutsche Post DHL Group has 2,500 Streetscooter electric delivery vans in its fleet. The company will be doubling its current annual production level to 4,000 by the end of the year.
Part of that production output can be sold to external fleet customers at a price of 32,000 euros ($34,000), according to Automotive News.
The company is now considering launching a second assembly plant that could increase annual production to 20,000 a year.

Tata Bolt

Described by author “Nigel” for The Red Ferret as “impressive,” and “very nice,” with good drivability, attention to detail, and fit and finish all around, the electric conversion of Tata’s UK-built Bolt subcompact left him “a little bit shell shocked.”
