Toyota Hints At Electric Or Hybrid SUV In New Patent
As one commenter pointed out, it's most likely a 3-row SUV as the 2nd photo shows a drawing of what appears to be a 3rd row seat (#72) with what is possibly a battery underneath (#70) with the ladder frame (#14) and cross members (#28) in the foreground and the spare tire (#74) at a diagonal.
If it's a "current" product, it looks to be a 4Runner Hybrid, otherwise, Toyota is thinking of a new body-on-frame 3-row SUV (unlikely) or at least thinking about how to package a hybrid/PHEV system on a body-on-frame. My money is on a 4Runner Hybrid...Tideland Prius Aug 10, 2017 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 928 Likes: 0 Replies: 0 -

2018 Honda Accord drops mass, adds turbos and 10-speed - SAE International
Honda cut at least 110 pounds while making the next Accord a true full size car.
On the hybrid side, details are still minimal.
- The ICE is 40%+ thermally efficient
- They are aiming to best the new Camry's fuel economy figures
- No rare earth magnets in the motors
- battery under the rear seats

Fleet fuel efficiency
Source: Average new-vehicle fuel economy the best it's been in years - Roadshow
Considering that the market has not stopped its shift toward larger crossovers, which can be thirstier than comparable sedans, the rising fuel economy average is a good sign. Cars are getting more efficient, and as electrified offerings increase and are included alongside gas-powered versions of the same vehicle, this number will likely continue to rise in the coming years, unless Ford starts offering free pickup trucks to literally anyone with a pulse. There is another hypothesis, a grim one, that claims the automotive product mix is changing with a reduction of light trucks. Over the past months, Autoline Daily has reported...

National Drive Electric Week Sept 9-17
Source: National Drive Electric Week
This is one of those times when owner/operators can make a difference. Check with your local clubs to see who is doing what and 'raise your hand.' Makes a good excuse to get the car detailed too. <GRINS>
In Huntsville, we're meeting Saturday, September 16 for a day-long, EV car show. We're still working up the details but it is how we start.

Me and My PHEV Minivan
Source: http://wardsauto.com/2017-car-management-briefing-seminars/me-and-my-phev-minivan-no-prisoners
But the primary mission of the drive was to put the minivan, its clever propulsion system and assorted advanced technology (adaptive cruise control is wonderful on highways) to the road test.
The Pacifica Hybrid made the grade in various departments, the first one being fuel economy. I averaged a nice 28.2 mpg (8.4 L/100 km) for the entire trip, which consisted of limited city driving, some motoring at moderate speeds on county roads and a lot of wide-open barreling up I-75 (where the speed limit on some stretches has been increased to 75 mph [121 km/h]).
. . .
Here’s the Pacifica PHEV’s make up: a 220-hp, high-compression Atkinson-cycle V-6 (a derivative of FCA’s award-winning standard Pentastar V-6) is paired with two electric motors. A 16-kWh lithium-ion...bwilson4web Aug 3, 2017 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 791 Likes: 3 Replies: 0 -

Green Car, Blue Highways
Source: http://wardsauto.com/2017-car-management-briefing-seminars/green-car-blue-highways
It’s about 240 miles (386 km) from our suburban Detroit offices to the site of the annual Center for Automotive Research Management Briefing Seminars here, and our vehicle of choice, the Chevrolet Bolt EV, has an EPA-official range of 238 miles (383 km).
We could have said “impossible” and walked away from this endeavor, but we like challenges – especially ones that involve long road trips and unique vehicles. So we booked the car, and like a new owner facing the prospect of taking the first extended drive in our all-electric car, we started doing our homework.
It’s important to understand the Bolt EV’s 238-mile range is based on an EPA cycle that includes a mix of city and highway driving, with the highway miles at 5- to 10-mph (8-16 km/h) below the typical freeway limit. We...bwilson4web Aug 2, 2017 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 1,059 Likes: 1 Replies: 0 -
Some Ford hybrids might be susceptible to Hayes modem AT command hacks
It’s 2017 and Hayes AT modem commands can hack luxury cars
Telematics torched in BMWs, Infinitis, Nissan Leaf and some Fords
A bunch of mid-age Ford, Infiniti, Nissan and BMW vehicles are carrying around a vulnerable chipset from Infineon that America's ICS-CERT reckons is easy to exploit.
The BMWs went on sale between 2009 and 2010, the affected Infiniti models were built between 2013 and 2015 and there's a chance Nissan Leafs manufactured between 2011 to 2015 have bugs. A handful of Ford hybrids may also be in trouble.
In IT terms a 2009 product is close to end-of-life; a car that age might still be covered by an extended warranty (and in Australia, by parts of the 10-year statutory warranty).
Infineon's contribution to the problem is a 2G baseband chipset, the S-Gold 2 (part number PMB 8876), used by upstream German vendor Continental to produce telematics control units (TCUs).
The first vulnerability is a stack-based buffer overflow that ICS-CERT...pilotgrrl Aug 1, 2017 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 1,059 Likes: 0 Replies: 3 -
Auto parts suppliers in the future

. . . some automotive suppliers are being forced to make strategic moves as a result of this huge disruption that potentially will impact the industry.
For example, the SchaefflerGroup supplies 40 to 50 bearings for internal-combustion engines and transmissions. Battery EVs would need only a handful.

Model 3 has 310 mile range
Source: Tesla’s Model 3 Arrives With a Surprise 310-Mile Range - Bloomberg
Three hundred ten.
That’s the electric range of a $44,000 version of Tesla’s Model 3, unveiled in its final form Friday night. It’s a jaw-dropping new benchmark for cheap range in an electric car, and it’s just one of several surprises Tesla had in store as it handed over the keys to the first 30 customers.

Well if no one else will post it.

Good news for Jetta TDI
Source: Volkswagen Gets Diesel Fix Approval in US | TheDetroitBureau.com
“Volkswagen is pleased that it has received regulatory approval to offer affected customers in the United States an approved emissions modification (AEM) for approximately 326,000 Generation One 2.0-liter TDI vehicles with automatic and manual transmissions,” the company announced today.
. . .
With the approval, the automaker can offer owners an option: fix the car or sell it back to VW. According to VW, it submitted test data and technical information showing the modification works without negatively affecting vehicle reliability or durability.
As part of the deal, Volkswagen is required to explain how and why the modification works and what difference owners may experience in their car’s performance, reliability and durability as a result so they can decide to fix or sell.
This will have...bwilson4web Jul 28, 2017 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 997 Likes: 0 Replies: 4 -
These Hybrid Cars Get Double The US Average MPG
Source: These Hybrid Cars Get Double The US Average MPG
Did you know you can spend the average low-30s price for a new car with average 26 mpg, or – if you care to save where it counts – you can buy a hybrid for less than the U.S. average price with double the U.S. average fuel economy?
Hybrid cars are meant to be thought of in that way, and with around 40 models now available, they are seen as a lower barrier to entry for those just wanting to save at the pump.
True, conventional cars’ mpg is inching upwards, and plenty get in the high 20s, into the 30s, but hybrids tend to blow these numbers away.
Numerous hybrids get upwards of 40 mpg, and as of this year, there will be three that get over 52 mpg.
. . .
Now if we can just get new car buyers to 'get a clue.'

Toyota set to sell long-range, fast-charging electric cars in 2022: paper | Reuters
Toyota's new electric car, to be built on an all-new platform, will use all-solid-state batteries, allowing it to be recharged in just a few minutes
Toyota spokeswoman Kayo Doi said the company would not comment on specific product plans but added that it aimed to commercialize all-solid-state batteries by the early 2020s.
Toyota is reportedly planning to begin mass-producing EVs in China, the world's biggest auto market, as early as in 2019, although that model would be based on the existing C-HR sport utility vehicle and use lithium-ion batteries.GasperG Jul 25, 2017 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 7,386 Likes: 4 Replies: 58 -
Koch Brothers attack EV's again with misinformation
So yeah, they're at it again, trying to make EV's seem like they're worse than gas cars are, not to mention oil.
But they forget to mention other costs, like stationing the military overseas in unstable regions of the world where much of the world's known oil reserves are at. Or the cost in health from emissions pollution. How about that brown smog back in 1970's LA, or several Chinese and European cities?
But I guess we're supposed to ignore that, because EV's are bad.
