. When your sales numbers are small (Remember our population is about the same as the State of California), it looks unimpressive. But relatively, it's a good year for Prime.

If you're living in the US, and thinking about but still on the fence with leasing or buying new plug-in car, now would be a very good time to buy one. Aside from getting potentially great deals on them, because not many people want to buy a new car in winter time (at least in areas where snow shows and sticks around), and with it being the end of the calendar year, dealers may be motivated to push their remaining stock out before the new year.
Plus you won't have to wait very long to get the tax credit if you buy it new compared to buying one in January, then having to wait till next year. Used plug-ins don't qualify for it, but you still benefit indirectly because that tax credit also lops a sizable chunk off the resale value, aka it's artificially cheaper too.

The actual contribution of plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles (PHEV and BEV) to greenhouse gas mitigation depends on their real-world usage. Often BEV are seen as superior as they drive only electrically and do not have any direct emissions during driving. However, empirical evidence on which vehicle electrifies more mileage with a given battery capacity is lacking. Here, we present the first systematic overview of empirical findings on actual PHEV and BEV usage for the US and Germany. Contrary to common belief, PHEV with about 60 km of real-world range currently electrify as many annual vehicles kilometres as BEV with a much smaller battery. Could this device make fuel cell cars worthwhile?
The UCLA device is a hybrid unit that combines a supercapacitor with a hydrogen fuel cell, and runs the whole shebang on solar power. Along with the usual positive and negative electrodes, the device has a third electrode that can either store energy electrically or use it to split water into its constituent hydrogen and oxygen atoms – a process called water electrolysis.
And it helps that the UCLA device uses materials like nickel, iron and cobalt, which are much more abundant than the precious metals like platinum that are currently used to produce hydrogen.
UCLA device users can hook into the sun almost anywhere to produce their own fuel, which could be particularly handy for those living in rural or remote areas.

BMW has issued a voluntary non-compliance recall and stop-sale on all new i3s until the issue of the recall can be remedied. So if you’re looking to buy a BMW i3, you might be in for some bad luck.
According to NHTSA testing, there’s an issue with frontal crash protection for drivers of the “5th percentile female” in the driver’s seat, if they don’t wear their seatbelt. Basically, that means that, in the event of a frontal crash, females of about 5-feet tall and 110 pounds have a “marginally higher risk” of sustaining neck injuries than is allowed.

Employees at Toyota’s largest plant in North America were just delivered a message from Japan: cut costs or lose jobs.I've taken two tours of this plant and it is 'Disneyland for Engineers.' I hope they get the problem(s) resolved.
The company’s plant in Georgetown, Kentucky, produces the Camry, which is the best-selling sedan in the U.S., was told in a video from the company’s plant manager that currently it is cheaper for Toyota to build the Camry in Japan and ship it to Kentucky than it is to simply build it in Kentucky.

In their study, the UCSB researchers prepared liquid alloys of active metals in low–melting-temperature metal “solvents” (Sn, Pb, Bi, In, and Ga) using known equilibrium phase behavior to produce catalysts that melt at <1000°C. The melts are used in molten-metal bubble columns, where carbon continuously floats to the surface where it can be removed.
The carbon produced—mostly graphite—accumulated as a fine powder at the top surface of the melt.
In addition to the problems of high-pressure hydrogen, a hard problem, steam reformulation of methane generates CO{2} and consumes water. This process eliminates the water and generates carbon in a form that can easily be sequestered.
