I'm sitting in the lobby of Acton Toyota in Acton Mass, waiting for a state inspection sticker for my 5 day old Prius.

While here, I stopped by the Parts Dept. The original price for the Sirius kit from these guys was over $400 PLUS installation. When I showed the parts guys this post, the part numbers were different from those on their quote, and the 'list' price came down to $298. I was able to negotiate this down to $270, which is reasonable because there's no shipping charges and these guys are local if I need help.

Anyways, thank you to Mr Wright in Ohio for posting the part numbers. I'm on a business trip for a couple of weeks but will post back when I finish the installation.

It seems everyone is trying to gouge customers. We need to use the internet to get prices down.

With any luck I'll have my Prius in a couple of weeks, and I'm a big Sirius fan. A couple of questions -- is the install essentially the same as the XM install, and does the tuner/fit kit include an antenna or do I need to get that separately?

What else will I need to purchase to get Sirius up and running?
I'm also considering buying the install DVD from Factory Interactive. Is there anything else I'll need? How much do you charge to ship to California? I can walk to my local Toyota dealership, but if I can save $ through you, I'll gladly do it.

Shipping to California would be in the $10-12 range. For the $250.00 price you will receive everything that you need. I do not want to bash FI and their DVD, but I had a good customer buy it and he felt that it was informative but an unnecessary purchase. I provide the Toyota installation instructions for free and feel that they are very detailed and contain enough information to do the install. They can even be emailed if you prefer. I am sure that I can save you money since I most certainly charge less than your local dealer. I do not charge tax, just shipping.

Any idea if this kit will work in the 04/05? Would you let me try it and return it otherwise?

    Metro,

Do you have any pictures of the antenna you use in your kit? With your price of $250 it sparks my interest, even with a 10 character limit.

If Toyota does not specify it for 2004-05, I cannot tell you it will work. ;) It is possible that it might, but I do not want to get in the middle of that discussion honestly. Also sorry there are no try it and then return it options. I wish I could, but it just does not work that way anymore.

    Here is your photo...

P.S. Sorry there is no size reference. I forgot until after I posted. It is roughly the size of silver dollar or for those of you with a sweet tooth a peanut butter cup.

I'm hoping someone here can help me. I have a 2007 Prius and purchased the after market Sirius radio kit for a Navagation system from VAIS. This week I paid a fortune to have my Toyota dealership install it. Immediately I started having electronic problems, such as the radio volume would quit working, the climate fan speed would not respond, etc. I've taken the car back to the dealership, but they don't know why it is happening. They know it is being caused by the radio system, but they don't know if it is because the kit is not compatible afterall or if they hooked it up wrong. Has anyone else heard about this happening? Has anyone installed the VAIS system has it working? Any assistance would be appreciated.

I had a similar problem with the VAIS unit and spoke with Eugene at VAIS about it. He first updated the software on my unit and though this did alleviate the problem, it didn't go away completely. He then swapped it out for a new unit and I haven't had any trouble since.

I can tell you exactly why it's happening, but I'm surprised a VIAS unit would cause it. They're experienced enough to know how to avoid that from happening. You didn't by chance have a SAT kit pre-installed before you bought the car?

Thank you Car, I'm working with Eugene at VAIS, so I'm glad to know I have the right person there.

Vagabond, my car came Satellite Ready, is that the same as a SAT kit? I bought the SLS kit for Prius' that VAIS makes. Eugene suggested I have the technician make sure the harness is plugged in all the way in and double check the version number. So why exactly is it happening?

Not the same thing, I meant to say that was there a kit installed like the VIAS already installed. I'm guessing not.

If you had 2 kits in there, that could cause it. That's why I asked. But otherwise it's being cause by the kit flooding the computer system with info or causing a conflict by sending out it's commands at the same time as something else in the car.

Do you have any confirmation yet that this kit will in fact work on lower packages (Options 1 and 2 I believe) that aren't specified as "satellite ready"? Thanks!

That's not to say that every kit will work in 04+

Some manufactures don't put the code in for every year, I can't for the life of me figure out why not. The car can handle it.

I hope this is true. But do you know why "satellite capability" is listed only for Packages 3 and higher?

Actually, I'd love it if you could e-mail them to me ahead of time. Just because your good customer was able to pull it off, doesn't mean that I'll be able to. ;-) I want to see if a layman can figure them out or not. reachgilbert *dash* c *at* yahoo.com (reachgilbert-c)
Lastly, does the fact that my car has "Satellite Radio Capability" mean that I'll have to remove some XM equipment before installing my new Sirius? Thanks for being such a good resource.
