Extended Warranty vs. Basic

DRC freezes on a non-existent vehicle, CD changer stopped working. Toyota won't do anything about DRC malfunction and dealer insists fault with DC is due to use of library CDs. Want's $465 to retrieve CDs. Toyota is NO HELP AT ALL on either issue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

I thought the question was answered in this thread. Yes you can wait until 3 years or 36,000 miles (whatever comes firsts) and you will pay the same price.

I strongly recommend you wait. You will be amazing on how reliable the Prius is. There are many people over 100,000 miles on their Gen III Prius with zero issues. This is a clear tell of what you will see on your car.

Did you know that the Hybrid-related components, including the HV battery, battery control module, hybrid control module and inverter with converter, are covered for 8 years/100,000 miles by the standard warranty? In some states it is even longer.

That is the number one thing the scumbag dealers use to sell an extended warranty. The most common term is. “The Prius is a hi-tech vehicle and when something like the battery goes bad it could costs thousands” My scumbag dealer told me this.

 

I read the link in your post and did a google search on DRC or DRCC and could not figure out what it was.

How in the world would the dealer know that you get your CD's from a library?

 

I should have said "DRCC" (Dynamic Radar Cruse Control). That's Toyota's brand name for Adaptive Cruse Control. It is part of the optional Advanced Technology Package on the Model 5 Gen III Prius. I will update my original post to reflect this and add Toyota's position.

I told them because it was important that I retrieve the CDs (book on CD) to return to the library.

 

For the poster asking about the cost -- do a search on the forum and you will find the member selling them -- that is about the cost of the 7 year 125k.

For the poster with the problems -- Contact the zone office of Toyota ... you are having a dealer problem. The CD's should eject and the dealer may not be able to duplicate what you have going on with the CC.

 

I did contact Toyota Customer Care (several times) and they wouldn't do a DAMN thing! That is why I question the value of an extended warranty - if Toyota keeps wiggling out of responsibility of honoring it!

 

My dealer said the same thing, but I just dismissed it as it *is* his job to sell products, and he wasn't a Toyota dealer (BMW). It is funny to think that even car salesmen don't have or give the right information for full hybrids to buyers yet unless it is a car manufactured by their company.

Just do the research online before you go to test drive the car, and you'll be immune to sales pitches like that. An extended warranty on a Prius that was taken care of by the previous owner? Totally unnecessary unless you're over the top anal about that sort of thing. I fully expect to get 12-15 years and 150k miles out of my Prius without major repair, unless I decide to trade up before that.
