When I looked into earlier this year, Tesla's sales were down the same rate as Toyota's from the pandemic. Now they appear to be recovering faster than most of the industry. So the loss of the federal tax credit hasn't limited those interested.

Did you toss that refueling card into the trash?

Refueling card is great. Love not having to pay for fuel the next 3 years. Best idea ever!!

Did you just recently get it? Congratulations!

I see 7 new stations are going to be built around So Cal if I read the article correctly. I hope maybe next school year if/when they actually go back to class we can consider a hydrogen car as there is a station on campus....

UCI? Yes fairly new purchase. Love the car and have had NO issues with fueling. With the additional fuel stations beIng built it will be extremely attractive to new buyers - 2021 model is going to be a game changer as it looks more conservative and upscale then the current model - but I like the current design as it stands out from the norm. I know several new owners of CPO Mirai’s as the current deals on them are fantastic.

next time you ask the Tesla store what their cost is, bring a bunch of hydrogen car Flyers with you to justify why Tesla's should Cost Less. Undoubtedly they too will really really really enjoy that.

    .

if you can only make so many hundreds of thousands of cars right now, does it really matter?
what? They give you a car for free just so they can get it off the lot and that's not an incentive? Okay.
Maybe get one or two or three for the other members of the family -
They could be strategically located around all of California. After all there's nearly 156,000 square miles .... one hydrogen station for neaely every 3,900² miles.

CSULA. It was the only school we found that would take him straight from 8th grade...

That's awesome info about the CPOs thank you for sharing. (Told my wife, the decision maker, about your note. Just gotta give her time she makes her own decision)....

Wonder where the new stations will pop up. So Cal seems decently populated.

Toyota steps up to support Mirai fuel-cell car with 7 more hydrogen stations in California

Guess they decided to take it upscale or they were tricking the competition to believe there were going smaller and cheaper. The reality is the 2021 is a masterpiece and will be what all EV will aspire to be like. It’s gonna be Toyota’s flagship and rightfully so.

If there was higher demand prices would go up, and tesla could sell all their china produced cars in china and not charge europeans a premium when they shipped a american or chinese one there ;) No more cars but ... tesla would have higher profits to justify their stock price and musk would likely be even richer than he is now:cool: But yes sales would not change. To do that they would need truck and maybe a factory producing cars in Austin. I know my property tax rates are probably going to go up.

They couldn't even lease the 3000 mirais they could produce last year, and it would have to compete with the current mirais at a steep discount coming off lease. Lets face the big expenses are the fuel cell and the hydrogen tanks. A smaller mirai is still going to be almost as heavy and not really improve mpge, and smaller cars do not sell as well. It was always a bad idea, and toyota figured that out.

It will lease for much less than a $56K car. Governments and toyota are ready to take a hit to see if they can lease these in higher volumes. They can afford it.

I do think it looks good other than that grill. The hydrogen tanks take up a lot of room so they can't really go much smaller than the current model. Performance is likely going to be poor compared to other sedans in its class. They can probably cut costs significantly, improve performance and convenience, if they put a big lithium battery and a plug on the thing. I'm thinking 12 kwh pack and 2 - 35 kw fuel cells. That would provide about 175 hp total, about 25 hp more than the current mirai while the fuel cell stack, the most expensive part of the vehicle would cost only 61% of a 114 kw stack. The thing would have approximately 30 miles of plug-in range reducing fill ups, and making it more convenient.

Can't have a plug 'cause people will see how convenient plugging in really is.

I think most people in california, the only state with any real fcv volume, already know that. It is a point for japan though.

Part of Japan's grid infrastructure isn't well suited for home charging. The Prius Prime would take over 10 hours, and Level 2 wouldn't be possible. Thus why a solar roof can be justified. Flip side of course is that what they are paying for hydrogen stations could fund upgrading their grid.

I think Toyota's stated reason for no plug was that would reduce the demand for hydrogen fuel, and slow down expansion of the hydrogen network.

yea .... much better to live with $15/fuel than to make an efficient car. It just keeps getting better & better.

    Or not

Keep stating untruths and sooner or later other Priuschat folks will see the BS. Many folks won’t buy a Tesla as they are turned off by the Tesla fan boys.

The fact is that a larger battery and smaller fuel cell would be cheaper than the current Mirai design. Adding a plug would mean stations could further apart at first, allowing a larger area to receive service.

I see what your saying - but that’s not what FCEV vehicles are about.

That's what Nissan's design does. They just don't add a plug. It would still allow the use of hydrogen if that is the desire. It might even allow better performance.
