i'm not sure what liberal leanings musk has besides climate change, which he would probably classify as science, which has no political leaning, except that people try to make it so

like his new buddy, he does not consider multiple children by multiple women a liberal tendency.
to me, it's just a personality flaw

Sunsetting for four years, Constitution puts a new executive in. Liberals drive plenty of gas guzzling suvs, too. Funny but they are not the liberals. Liberals voted for someone who wants to overturn the present system of government. People of conservative nature want the Constitution we have. I do forgive him though because he really has no grasp of three branches of government and how it works. It’s that low IQ, can’t come down on a person for that disability.

I fail to understand what the environment and driving a car or an EV has to do with political parties or the constitution and I probably will never understand it. The only thing I see that had to do with tariffs and the constitution is that the revolution and following constitution were put in place largely because tariffs made it more expensive to live in the states.

Reading here that EV tax maybe going away... I thought about using the credit while it last to take $15,000 ($7,500 federal and $7,500 state) off the sales price of a new BEV... If I can find a base model 24 Equinox EV at $33,600 MSRP anywhere, that would be $18,600 price tag before tax and fees. But since it can't serve as a single car in our household, buying this car as a secondary car is a luxury not a necessity for me. Yeah, I think I will pass on the tax break. Have done without a second car for the last two years. And our current Escape PHEV is saving money overall from previous years when we had two cars (PP and Hybrid Pathfinder) in our household.

Odd thing is - when some rapper thug or others in the media/entertainment have multiple kids via multiple women? God forbid someone should suggest they have a character flaw.
    Kings X! Racist!
That term is pretty broad. American liberalism is NOT some hairy chested person with a shaved head, & lipstick in a dress - pushing transgender ideology on children - grooming to change sex w/out parent's permission/knowledge, as just one small example. When the party stops cow-towing down to the fringe, grows some cojones & starts standing for their core values, things may get better.

One of the advantages of living where you live!
Your state actually has low overall taxes AND generous BEV kickbacks.

I would urge you to lean WAY away from vehicle (f)leases unless you fit into a VERY small group of people for whom it's only an overly expensive option, instead of a disastrously bad option.
I think you mentioned it yourself.
Transportation is not an investment, it's an expense.
IIRC your state has something like a $4k kickback for used BEVs which may or may not be stackable with the $4k federal kickback.
The only 2 problems are that you generally have to buy from a dealer, and what dealerships lack in morals they make up for in the ability to do math - which places them well above well meaning elitists who do not understand incentive structures and inflation - as we've seen all too clearly in the last few years.

Get a well maintained used BEV/PHEV.
DIY the whole charger thing or...since you rent work with your landlord to cost-share their property improvement.
Back when I rented I would often DIY minor property improvements (ceiling and vent fans, lighting, fencing, etc) by having the cost for the materials deducted from my monthly rent.
A Win Win that you may want to look into for solar - since PEV is scalable!

Same can be said for conservatism.
Many people are single-issue activists - or as we just saw, they pick the WRONG hills to fight and die on.
This applies to everyone to some degree, as we've ALSO seen over the last two decades.

As I've (probably, too) often said:
The Human animal is REALLY REALLY poor at long term risk assessment.

Otherwise we would not have credit cards and cigarettes..... ;)

I have been trying to comply with a government mandate that all HOA/POA directors register via fincen to prevent multi-organization financial fraud. It has taken 30 minutes to establish my identity. I'm not sure that the govt is spending enough to conquer the digital divide.

This is my thought. The Nissan Leaf we had would have been a great second car. But when we'd go visit family out of town (hundreds of miles away) in the 1985 VW diesel that had rust holes in the fenders, the wife didn't understand why we couldn't just take the 75 mile range Leaf instead.

There were lease deals as low as $9 per month. $9 on a car that would cost about 1/3 or less to fuel than the other car would potentially save me money for around town. But I was afraid that initial payments and insurance would have easily stacked up and made it not as great of a deal.

    Also:

Yep, it is possible to get these incentives, but then again I don't need another car just yet. And, as you've pointed out, there are the dealers to deal with (pun perhaps intended).

I would DIY the charger like I did with the Leaf. The one good thing about the Leaf is it has such low capacity that 120V 15A was plenty to charge it up to 80% or full even.

The landlord has no interest in improving any property. Lots of places she owns are in extreme disrepair, even condemned, and she doesn't care. She also doesn't want me to add anything, not even have a satellite dish installed.

The tea tax went to the King I believe, as you know. No more Kings was the idea.

It isn’t political driving an eV or caring about the environment. One particular man used it as a wedge. It’s a powerful tool to get people to believe they are one side of something. Locks them in. Lock step voting, no protest voting for a candidate who can never win, throwing your vote away. It even went to dishwashers and I forgot what else. People get pulled into one side and the pull becomes something pretty dangerous. Like anyone against the man gets death threats almost immediately. Anything the man says or does is fine. Anyone he dislikes is attacked. It’s happened now, part of history.

Most people do not let politics, or one person dominate their lives and thinking as you do.

Most would stand on their own two feet and think for themselves..

Now, I checked a bit on Equinox EV... as a secondary car that we may not need, the price tag of $18,600 before tax and fees but with $15K incentives taken off the MSRP $33,600 is expensive. In fact, cursory look around where I live found the lowest priced Equinox EV with options added is more like $43K which makes this secondary in-town only car price at ~$28K. Way too expensive of a deal.

But, turns out all Equinox EV built on Ultium platform is capable of bi-directional charging, unlike its predecessor GM Bolt. GM Energy Home System This makes the Equinox EV to be used as a backup battery for home use. I recently installed 16kW solar system on our roof... and am considering adding battery storage system in future. Equinox has 85kWh battery, so even with 80%-20% use, about 50kWh energy can be used for V2H. This would be enough to power our home for about a week or so in emergency. And, the add-on battery storage system for this size would cost more than $28K total. Now, it starts making sense to buy a $43K Equinox EV at discounted ~$28K, and use it as a secondary vehicle AND as a home battery storage system. I maybe onto something. Have to do more math.

It was actually about not having representatives in Parliament. If England had given the colonies some MPs, we'd now be a commonwealth like Canada and Australia.
Most of those are thinking in ignorance from not learning critical thinking skills and being told to distrust actual experts. Then rest are voting on feelings without thinking.

Will need a bidirectional EVSE for that. The extra cost over a standard 50amp Level 2 is small($500 more IIRC) compared to the amount being discussed.

That’s quite amazingly wrong and what the supporters of the one who tried to stay in power against the Constitution have done. Not me. As you know Biden supporters came down on him hard. That doesn’t happen in a cult. You got it backwards. It’s very dangerous, thank God the Constitution stands and the military does not have to obey orders that are against it.
You have to realize t is first a salesman and a con man, that’s been his life. Look at what he did, the election, the transition, the storming of the Capitol. If you can’t see sweet words in a prepared damage control speech don’t undo what he actually did, you are the one not standing on your own two feet.

The first tax incentive I ever got for buying a car was for a 2009 VW Jetta "Clean Diesel" TDI. We all know how that ended.

The first tax "incentive" I got was on my first car, a used and quite old 1951 Plymouth Cranbrook. The taxes were much cheaper than taxes on a new car.

Kind of sad how VW single-handedly wrecked the image of diesel engines. They do have good torque & efficiency, only not as much as when hooked up to cheat system.
