I'm surprised no one got back to you on this.
The EV switch helps keep the car in electic only mode a bit longer and at higher speed. And if you are going slow enough, you can force it into electric only. But it's not a total overide. If you push the car enough, the ICE will start no matter what you do to that button.

It might have practicality if you need to move your car a short distance and you don't want the ICE to come on. Otherwise, it is just there to help you show how the car shuts off at times. And maybe scare people in parking lots.

The button is technically "not allowed" in the USA and Canada, and I'm not sure why. The switch is fairly common in Japan and Europle -- I think as an add on.

Please do write it up and take photos if you have an easier way to do this...add it on after Rick's write-up as a modification. And, FWIW, the install can be much easier, but to get the button to light you've got a little more work to do.

    I've amended my post above.

If you have the Coastaletech EV mod and have EV mode engaged as well as cruise control, and you hold the cruise control cancel for 2 seconds to cancel EV mode, does cancel cruise control as well? Or will it only cancel cruise control if you hit cruise control cancel momentarily (< 2 seconds)?

Cruise control can not be used while in EV mode...so your question is moot.

Yeah they are on E-Bay but they are like $110- that seemed a little high to me. Am I wrong?

    Ah, I didn't know that.

I did finally find out where I got the idea that the Coastaletech Cruise Control EV mod prevents cruise control use under 35MPH and hence the reason I originally used the term "hijack". The reason I couldn't find the forum thread is b/c it's in the Knowledge Base. :p It's in the EV Button Installation Instructions KB article.

Evan, may I suggest you amend the KB article?

I received my package yesterday, installed already, works fine. I've sent an email to the seller and he or she replied that more to come and they are developing a web site too for other parts to be sold. No date yet but soon they said.

Wow $102, the demand is out there, more power to them.....

Installation went well, some what easy, so if anyone needs help let me know.

:Wth: Why not just buy it from japanparts.com for $50 including shipping? It was delivered to me in under a week too!

How easy is easy? The reason I went with Coastal's is because I thought the OEM path was Moderately Difficult. i.e. requiring disassembly of the whole dash and soldering of which I have no access to a solder gun.

Well, no soldering, the only disaseembly was the left side driver vent and right side. Glove compartment and on the right vent under it there is a small pannel too.

The instructions stated used the dimmer switch and connected 3 cables to it and the ev switch, 1 cable pulled from the HV-EUC pin 27 to the ev switch. I did this in 1 hour. I thought it was going to be a nightmare. But it wasnt.

    Works great.

Really.... could you send me the instructions? i.e. scan and e-mail if it's not too much of a hassle? I would prefer the OEM button but Coastal's plug & play makes it easier for someone like me who knows nothing about engineering. Also, I've been waiting over a month for it. Just PM me for my e-mail address. Thx Roso

    NO guys use this link

It the same but use dr. evans to dismantle the pannels, he explains it and the connection to the HV-EUC pin 27 to the ev switch then use ricks document to connect the ev to dimmer switch.

It sounds complicated but its not, I am just a simple guy too.

If you think that is complicated, take a look at THIS.

Maybe it will give you some more info. That author went the extra mile creating a y-harnes and disassembling just about the whole dash. I will be going the easier route by using a coat hanger or something to get the wire across the dash. It would have been nice if there was a part number for that plug he used just in case someone else did want to do that.

You could also just pull the wire from pin-27, OVER the airfilter, DOWN the right side of the center console, AROUND the bottom of the hub of the center console, and then UP the left side of the center console, and then toward location of you choice.

I think this is easier than pulling the wire behind and through with the clothes hanger.
