EV Incentives are unfair and needs to be changed!

I'm probably looking at an 'end-of-lease' LEAF between 2015-2016 and expecting a battery replacement within a year. Used LEAF prices are already in the $15-17k range and the trend line, especially considering the gasoline price reduction, is in a patient buyer's favor. If the next version has a 150 mile range, the used ones should be even more affordable.

respectfully disagree. See my link above. Japan has no natural resources. Thus, Japan (especially) will work hard to spend on fuel cells. Japan wants alternatives when oil goes sky high, as it eventually will. They've spent WAY before the incentives. They lobby Cali hard core for money to make their costs go down.

 

sorry was watching football. I pulled up the irs for 2014, and it was not there.

I remember it being in the congressional bill in 2009, but perhaps the cap was pulled before it was passed.

 

Nissan made a large investment in EVs and batteries with building factories across the globe. They were gambling on leap frogging Toyota with BEVs. I'm sure they lobbied lawmakers for benefits, corporations always do, but Nissan didn't decide to make the Leaf because of the incentives. If that were the case they could cut their losses by only selling within California like most of the other manufacturers.

Look, Toyota sold the Prius, nation wide but stopped with the Plug-In Prius. They let GM (killed the EV1) sell the Volt nation wide and the Volt remains GM's only apology . . . thin gruel. No other Toyota hybrid suffered this distinction proving current Toyota management is not really committed.

Every company deserves the right to be wrong and in this case, Toyota has with one sales decision, the PiP, followed by the FCV announcements pretty well decided to 'hoist the banner of victory' and retreat from the field. One mistake is forgivable. But two is evidence of a new policy. Sealing their fate, Toyota has AC inverters only for the Japanese, not the USA market. Toyota management have by their deeds told us what are their priorities for Toyota in North America.

So if my next car is a Leaf, used perhaps, it only means I need to see commitment, not 'green-wash.' I'm here not because of green but because of Green-back, Yankee dollar. Toyota wants to seek other customers, OK by me . . . I'll buy what meets my requirements.

They have geothermal, and are beginning to explore that energy option more thoroughly.

As for subsidies, what taxpayers give to fund gas cars makes any mention of the words "EV subsidy" laughable in comparison. Yet, the sales job has been so good, everybody thinks of EVs and public transportation when they hear the word subsidy.
