ok so mechanic finally finished the swap. unfortunately the engine won't start and he is getting a hybrid error. he claims a scan shows there are 4 dead cells on the traction battery. I am finding it very hard to believe since I remember starting it with no errors before towing it to his shop.

could he have messed up the hybrid connections to the new engine??

Hi Paul! I'm half way removing my eng. but can't find a way to remove the 6 bolts to disassemble from transm. Mine is 2012 prius and I'm replacing engine on it.
I would appreciate if you can help.

I did just replaced my engine on 2012 gen3 and did it with a hoist. It will be very difficult without one. Either use a hoist from top or lift the car up (watch for the windshield ) and remove the black pulley.

Gen 3 has a belt pulley on the side of the water pump that has no belt on it (gen 2 has the belt) remove that pulley in order to remove the engine easier up.

I had the same issue (check hybrid sys.) On my gen 3 and I did disconnect the 12v battery for 30min. After that it ressets and warrning goes away.
