End of EV Tax Credits coming?

I have seen very few Gen 4 PriI and have seen NO Primes here.

 

maybe things will improve with your new guv, or was that md?

 

What's strange to me is that I've seen as many (more?) Primes than Gen 4's in my neck of the woods!! There are TONS of earlier Prii, including most taxis!!

maybe because all the incentives make it a better buy for many people.

 

The gen4 doesn't get that HOV sticker, and the combined state and federal incentives might bring a Prime price down below that of a gen4.

 

if it weren't for the raised hatch floor, no spare and 4 seats, it might be all primes.

 

I don't think our buying consumers are that informed, particularly with the absence of any advertising for the Prime. Most of the people I've spoken to on the street about my car have never heard of it!!

The federal hybrid credit ten years ago spurred hybrid sales at a time when few people knew what a hybrid was, similar to the current situation with plug-in hybrids. When the rebate ended hybrid sales didn't drop off as predicted, but actually increased, especially when gas prices went up. Some would say this increase would have happened even without the federal rebate, but I think not as fast, because there's sort of a critical mass you have to reach where people at least see some of them already on the road or know someone who has one.

The recent incentives in the past few years have really spurred electric car sales, enough that even though they are still a small percentage, you do see them all over the country now. As prices hopefully come down, range increases and charging stations increase, I think the incentives have put enough of these cars on the road to set the stage for a good increase in numbers whenever gas prices go back up.

Over a decade ago, Car and Driver took a Lamborghini Countach to a mall in the South/Midwest and asked the people who they thought the manufacturer was. Replies ranged from Ford to "Absolutely GM!" One female respondent said, "That's a Lamborghini Countach of course!!" When quizzed she replied that she was from Southern California, visiting family!! The magazine's writer concluded, don't worry Big Three, you're safe in Middle America!! I'm afraid he's a little too optimistic about California though, based on the ginormous volume of Sleds and Barges out here!!

Keep the faith, my son!! Remember, history is cyclical, although cynics will continue to tell us that humanity will continue to repeat the same mistakes over and over!! We've just got to live in an era when things will be getting better!! Unfortunately that choice may not be entirely up to us!!

Don't forget our Gov (R) before this put a tax on hybrids. But we killed it.
