    I still don't see how you can make a judgement about a system from a video of it being used improperly.

    The upcoming Polestar model will have a driver camera.
    From the CR article, "The Mercedes and Lexus/Toyota ACC systems scored top marks for their well-tuned following-gap distance settings. Our testers found the closest setting to be comfortable in high-traffic areas while still not allowing so much space that other vehicles would continually cut in ahead. We also like that the Mercedes and Subaru ACC systems have settings that allow the driver to adjust the deceleration and acceleration force with which it slows down and speeds back up for traffic ahead."

    That's where they edged out Autopilot. CR hadn't tested FSD for that publication. There is at least one thread here about those results where someone posted more details on the scoring.

    No FSD for you then?

    no, i opted out of super cruise. i'm too old and don't drive anywhere. as i said, one pedal driving already has me slow on the brake. using the regen paddle isn't helping either, i keep trying to pull it on mrs b's hycam, and wind up slamming the brake pedal a little late.
    my brother just leased a model y and is amazed at how well fsd works. and we have several acquaintances who also love it.
    i have yet to run into anyone who thinks it can completely drive the car without their paying attention and occasional input, but i also don't know any drunk drivers, it's a small sample.

    Because the Volvo behaved exactly like that and when you're accustom to Autopilot, it was a useless feature. I was glad to be back behind the wheel of my Model 3.

    Finally, they've stopped "resisting" :p

    Regarding lies - in Germany its now common to sue Tesla before selling (or giving back) your used Model 3/Y so you get back the money for FSD as well (including interest of course!).

    Seeing how Tesla was charging up to $15,000 for it, I would hope it would be better than the standard ADAS in other cars. Might even have had to spend thousands more to get Autopilot with the features to match the others.
    Tesla started selling full self driving here four years before a selection of the buyers got to be testers. That is what is driving a class action suite against them.

    That was for FSD, Autopilot has always been included with the car while most auto manufacturers includes theirs with the higher trims. The only thing Autopilot is missing from other Level 2 ADAS is auto reactivation after a lane change. Beside that, it's a much more capable system compared to any other Level 2 ADAS.

    Blue Cruise is at a cost of $75/month. FSD is $100/month with a subscription and I would rather be paying $25 more per month for a system as complete as FSD that can be used anywhere, even on private dirt roads compared to a system that can be used fully (but still very limited) on just selected segments of some highways in NA.

    Tesla had basic Level 2 ADAS through Autopilot standard before most. When the market of similarly price cars had it standard, many also included extra abilities. Needed Enhanced Autopilot to match them. When FSD was $15k, EAP was $6k. Tesla got rid of EAP this year, which meant getting FSD for $8k to get the EAP features.

    CR rated Ford, Toyota, Mercedes, and BMW the same or better than Autopilot in capability. TSS 3+ is standard for most 2024 Toyotas, including the Corolla. Those that have a lesser TSS will be due for a redesign in a couple years.

    You could get the BlueCruise for under $60/month with the annual $700 plan.
    But I'm happy continuing to pay $0 a month for Eyesight.

    hycam, nothing but lane keep assist, which just ping pongs you between the lines, and radar cruise, which is obnoxious, because if someone pulls in front of you, it hard brakes to get the set distance, and when they leave, it floors it to get back up to speed.

    Couldn't you set the default the regen off pedal to the lowest setting, and just drive it like your old Prius?

    Thought Toyota had selectable acceleration settings for cruise control. I got 4 choices on the Subaru.

    Except the basic capability of following a curve lol

    Unlike Tesla that pushes new features to vehicles already on the road.

    I would rather believe a government agency than an magazine who is looking for advertisement money (money that they can't get from Tesla), especially when they rated Mercedes' Level 2 ADAS "performance and capabilities" higher than Autopilot lol.

    Check how Euro NCAP rates Tesla's driver assist features compared to the brand you mentioned, including a Ford Mach-E that mowed down a cyclist crossing its path, yeah, so much better. I don't know what version of TSS the 2024 Toyota C-HR has, but it fared way lower than Tesla's safety assist from 2022 Model year. Subaru's is also rated below Tesla btw.

    And I'm also happy paying $0 for a potent Level 2 ADAS and happy to subscribe to FSD for the months I'll be doing some long distance tripping, which isn't an option for your Subaru. And the performance of your Subaru ADAS is the best it will ever be (unless you sell it and buy a newer model, how's that for cost efficiency?) while my 2021 Model 3 ADAS will get better thanks to Tesla's OTA Update.

    My 2017 Prius Prime lane keep assist can't even ping pong, It will gladly take the shoulder with any bend of the road. That thing is useless. Cruise control does like you said, brake hard (and Hybrid Assistant does show it uses the physical brakes). As for acceleration, it doesn't have the power (on highway with the engine running) to "floor it" though. It tries, but just puttin along.

    There are numerous reasons to not like CR, but pandering for advertising money is not one of them.

    How does it work for hardware? If Tesla decides they need radar again, how will it work with your car?

    What government agency is testing these?
    What part of "the video maker needed to have his hands on the steering wheel" do you not understand?

    Why not just provide a link?
    A Tesla just mower down a motorcycle that was in front of it. Several posts on that in this thread.
    Eyesight was also rated lower by CR. My brother's newer Subaru has a third, wide angle camera, and I think Eyesight now has radar in Japan. But I'm not looking for a psuedo full self driving system. The parts important to me(eg. emergency braking) aren't covered in those ratings; CR was just judging the assistant side.

    Again, if Tesla decides to go back to radar, or just update the cameras or processor, where does that leave you? Maybe if you bought the FSD, they might install it, but I doubt it with just the subscription.

    The ADAS was just one of many things I chose the Outback for. It works fine for me on the regular ten hour drives to my parents. I never used cruise control on trips less than an hour before, and I haven't started now that the ADAS is so much more capable. I wanted Eyesight more for the passive safety features than the active assist ones. If I somehow end up with a Tesla with FSD, I wouldn't be using it on my daily commute.

    Many things are hard or impossible to update on a car. Time and use will mean things will need fixing cause of wear. OTA software won't fix that.

    My Prius Prime has a radar and camera and will NEVER see any updates to improve its lane assist capabilities whatsoever while Model S built in 2012 are still getting them.

    And two Mach-E killed two people while in driver assist in a month. Don't forget those.


    Need, as in, you'll be in the ditch in no times otherwise. Such a better performing system indeed...

    Have you tried Autopilot or FSD and if yes, for more than a few minutes? I couldn't compare it against a recent ADAS system as my 2017 Prius Prime ADAS is basically useless and a 2019 Honda Accord I was a passenger in was ping ponging between its lines but being able to compare it against a 2024 top trim Volvo, it brings to light how well it can stay on the road. I onced was driving on the 425 in Toronto with a dead on low sun after a heavy downpour. The sun glare made the lines almost invisible to my eyes but Autopilot had zero problem staying in its lane.

    That Model S had to go into a service center at least once to update the hardware.
    Their most current results has the Outback ADAS a smidge better than the Model 3's.
    Do you really want to get into number deaths by system?

    FSD would not have done any better in those scenarios.

    It is not a hands free system.
    Do you think everything will work just fine when used in ways they aren't intended to be used?
    What does the Tesla manual say about using AP and FSD in inclement conditions?

    How capable the Tesla ADAS has absolutely no bearing on my issue. It is with how blase Tesla and Musk are in regards to safety and human behavior. Give people an ADAS that can operate hands free with just warning on how the driver is the one in control and responsible, and a significant number of those people will become complacent overtime, and act like the system can do more than it can.

    They can hide behind the fine print, but a more responsible approach would have lead to less crashes, and not running afoul of the NHSTA.

    Maybe, maybe not. Depends if they wanted FSD or not.

    Tested two years before with different criteria (updated in 2020). That 2019 Model 3 in 2022 now had the same software than the 2022 Model Y that scored higher. Will the 2021 Subaru do the same?

    Neither is Autopilot but I don't have to make a conscious effort to follow the wheel as it (tries to) turns in case it's not able to make that curve. Autopilot has always been able to make a curve, even one which has warning for being steep, with the car slowing down to make the curve, as shown here.



    Coming back from the cottage in the Volvo, I simply used its cruise control because it was more stressful than driving myself. Oh and the Volvo phantom braked in a curve with the message on screen saying "Emergency braking applied to avoid a collision" (with nothing) that needed to be dismissed from the screen.

    They all allows it within a certain amount of time. The Volvo I was driving also allowed me to let go of the steering wheel and will nag me to put them back after about 10 seconds, increasing the nags as time go by, up to deactivating (silently if I may say) itself. I simply have to reactivate it and proceed. With Tesla, once it deactivates, you can't use it for the remainder of the drive and it adds a strike to the car's count and when it reaches five, it deactivates Autopilot and FSD for a week for everyone driving the car. With the latest FSD, you can't look away from the road for more than 5 seconds or you'll get a warning, enough warning close together and you get a strike. They know people abuses the system and have been adding new methods to prevent it.

    An NHTSA that forces an update about the size of turn signal icons and forced Telsa to default to one pull to activate Autopilot because it "confuses people" while staying silent about a level 2 ADAS that can silently disengage. Ain't that more confusing?

    I have Super Cruise in the Bolt EUV. Personally, I call it Super Cruise light, because it doesn't have all the features the more expensive GM cars have, but I use it all the time going down the Jersey shore and back.
