Now I'm rather annoyed I took up my time to provide all of those links for this chump. Can I have those 7 minutes of my life back please?

Do your own damned research and while you're at it learn how to perform proper automotive comparisons and you'll find that the average diesel DOES NOT get better MPG than the Prius when factors like size and HP/TQ are considered.

There is a far, far, FAR greater health risk of driving a Prius simply because it is a small car. Here in the states, almost every vehicle on the road weighs more than Prius. There's only so much that airbags and crumple zones can do to protect you if you get creamed by a lorry.

Tim, there's no clear evidence that EMF has health effects even at high levels, much less for the levels found in a Prius. If you can find any evidence please let us know.

You think we don't have bullshit detectors on this side of the pond? LOL

You can go back to your diesel forum now.

Well Tim please do let us know what other electrical items you currently use so we can compare your "risks". Do you have any of the following.

- Refrigerator
- Hair dryer
- Microwave Oven
- Toaster
- Air conditioner.
- Vacuum Cleaner
- Washing Machine
- Power Tools (drill or saw)
- Mobile Phone
- Cordless Phone
- Wireless internet

At a distance of 1 foot all of the above have stronger EM fields than the cabin of a Prius and many have stronger EM fields even at a distance of over 4 foot.

Now I know the secret to you and your harem of women. Then again you are probably restricted from going within 200ft. of schools and Chuck E. Cheese..

I am prohibited, by law, from going within 200ft of Chuck-a-Rama, any fitness center, or any public beach

Actually it can. But its the heat of (some) laptops, not any form of radiation.

If you lot had bothered to look at Tim's profile, you'd see that he's been here since August and has already contributed to other threads. He's definitely not trolling.

The sad fact is that there's a lot of unnecessary scaremongering around electromagnetic fields. As far as we can tell, there is no additional danger from non-ionising radiation at the levels that cars and car components, and indeed WiFi, mobile phones, and broadcast transmitters, are permitted to emit. The authorities are far more interested in preventing interference to radio transmission and reception, and ensuring that cars continue to work when passing under power lines.

The International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection, ICNIRP, sets down guidelines for non-ionizing radiation levels. ('Ionizing' is the classic layman's idea of radiation, due to alpha or beta particles, gamma rays, or cosmic rays - with sufficient energy to remove electrons from atoms, leaving an ionized atom. Normal EM fields are far, far, far below this.) In terms of electric field strength, they are, for occasional exposure:

Column 1 Column 2 Column 3
0 Frequency range Electric field strength V/m
1
1–8 Hz
20 000
2 8–25 Hz 20 000
3 0.025–0.82 kHz 500/f
4 0.82–65 kHz 610
5 0.065–1 MHz 610
6 1–10 MHz 610/f
7 10–400 MHz 61
8 400–2 000 MHz √3f
9
10
2–300 GHz
137

Note that the lowest field strength guideline here is more than twice the maximum strength that the car is required to be able to deal with, and several hundred thousand times what it is permitted to emit.

We're currently in the middle of our Digital Television switch-over, and a lot of the main transmitters are getting new transmitting aerials as the existing aerials were approaching or exceeding 40 years old. ICNIRP guidelines have required the power to be reduced at some sites while the masts are worked on, or new or temporary masts to be placed further away from the old ones. At the Sutton Coldfield mast, north of Birmingham, the engineers' calculations for the temporary mast's location were incorrect and the power had to be reduced to protect workers on the main mast. It's transmitting four analogue TV channels at 1,000 kW effective radiated power, plus six 8 kW ERP digital TV multiplexes. Oh, and five national radio services at 250kW each, and five local radio stations at 10-11kW. And three DAB digital radio multiplexes. This site is less than 250 yards from some houses and under a mile from the main M6 motorway.

I did look and I did a quick search on his username and found him on Fuely.com and such. That is the reason I bothered to try and help him in the first place.

I did too, not that he seemed to appreciate it. It seems that people often start this sort of thread with a preconceived notion, and when we don't support their notion, they feel abused and whine about it. The whining annoys some of the regulars, and they get a bit snarky. The snarky comments incite the OP, who then lashes out, which then causes a massive pile-on. Ten or fifteen pages later it's a full blown donnybrook, and no one can remember how it started.

I've seen this pattern too many time to be amused.

I didn't think the majority of the original answers to the OP's question were all that "insulting" as he seemed to think they were. In hindsight I'm pretty sure he was just looking for an argument in this instance.

Since we have strayed far, far off the disproven link between Prius cars and "EMF" dangers, I might as well throw this out:
