Electrical or Engine Failure?

    ^ I was pulling off a bit of the dash about a week back, and Repair Manual has a caution, since you're working around air bags:

    Disconnect the 12 volt negative lead.

    Messes up a few settings, but better safe than sorry.

    That guy works fast btw, impressive. I know he's one of the "what drives us crew", just can't recall his name. @3prongpaul ?

    Good point. The guy does mention to make sure the fob is no where in the vicinity, but disconnecting the 12V is best.

    While we're at it, disconnect the 12 volt negative lead, and wait the prescribed amount of time for self-discharge of the power capacitors in the air bag system....

    If you disconnect the 12V first, it should be well over 90 seconds before you get to any airbag stuff unless you're really good an in a big hurry. (I was once quick enough to get poked by a 16kv transformer before its field finished collapsing. That kinda smarts! But not as bad as an air bag in the face, I'm sure.)

    After battery negative cable disconnect, I stuff that cable into one heavy-duty glove and tuck it out of the way, and the pair of that glove I lay across the hatch latch in the threshold, to avoid the hatch locking when lowered.

    It was probably about one second I think. Maybe less. Throw the disconnect, lift the lid, reach in with screwdriver already in hand. So I didn't get a lot. I was in a big hurry to get a press running.
