    So a couple weeks worth of driving has brought an issue to light. My front wheels scrub the fender well when cornering hard. :(

    My 17 x7" wheels have a 42 mm offset and site very flush with the front wheel well, not flush with the rear wheel well (they site inside a bit).

    I believe they are scrubbing the wheel well liner and not the metal of the well. I'll get in there and try to find the point of contact. I don't really want to buy new wheels so hopefully I can fix this cheaply.

    That seems pretty extreme to me. How does one roll fenders anyway? Is that something you get professionally done? I've seen some messed up rolled fenders. :(

    Mac, rolling fenders is generally advised to have a professional do it with a heat gun and fender rolling tool. Even an experienced friend with a fender rolling tool will work. If unable to do so, you can get away with a hair drier and a baseball bat our thick metal pipe. I'm sure if you take a gander on youtube, something will pop up. Careful though, its really easy to screw up fenders

    I've rolled fenders before but I don't think that is where I am scrubbing. I think it's hitting on the plastic wheel well shield. I'll check tomorrow for marks.

    I would like to second mac's opinion that mpg may drop after lowering the Prius because you may end up driving more agressively. This has been the case over the last feww hundred miles of driving. The car just doesn't quite feel like my old sloppy Prius.

    Most of my mpg drop is due to my 17" tires. Even trying to hypermile with these things on produces dismal results. Maybe I can afford new ones next month or so.

    Mmmm yup, coming out of corners is what kills me. :D Eventually however the thrill flags and the hypermiling bug kicks in every so often.

    What's great is you have the option to hypermile or drive on a sporty fashion. Between the springs and 17s the car is so much more fun to drive!

    there are some compensations too, you might be better able to hold corner speeds and brake less on entry, saving the fuel required getting back up to speed on exit.

    Also the aerodynamics should improve having less air go underneath the car, but thats only significant at highway speeds

    neither of which will compensate for a lead boot too dramatically :). The ultimate advantage is increased safety, particularly in wet weather. You cant buy your life back..

    I agree on all points. Unfortunately, the combination of a lead foot and these horrid tires has dropped my average commute mpg from 52 to 42. Grrrr

    Aye, these tires have always dropped my mpg by about 4-6 mpg. I've swapped then on and off probably a dozen times since I bought them in 2006. :)

    The tires are 215/45/17 Kumho ecsta ASX. They are very old now so that probably doesn't help but they have always dropped my mpg significantly. I doubt the wheels have much of an impact since they are only 1lb heavier than the oem 15s.

    I drove a taxi-cab while at Uni, and at one point the owner tried Kumho's which blistered pretty badly on the sidewalls in the summer. He went through 2 sets with the same issue before he scrapped them.

    Those wheels are so light its possible they outcompete some of the steel rim options (?). Still I would expect the tyres be heavier, but really only more of a hassle in stop start driving than more continuous speeds.

    Overall I would have thought the tyres would be the bigger culprits.

    The tires are definitely heavier. I made a post back when I first got the combo and my stock wheels with Integritys were approx. 31.5 lbs and the Centerlines with Kumhos were 37lbs.

    Nothing but new tires if I can afford them next month. I think I'm going with the Primacy MXM4. I'm broke from moving into the new house. Home Depot owns me.

    Kinda OT but you started lol..... How does constantly swapping tire packages from 15''s to 17's treating your TPMS? or does your 05 not have it?

    No sensor for the 04-05. :) I hated those things on the Corvette!
