That's been my general experience. Tire punctures are caused by a nail or such, and most of the time they stay in the hole until I get home.

    I disagree, I think it's a 'Feature', not a 'Bug'

I've had one slow leak, and one totally flat, in the 5 plus years with our 2010.

I've never had a need for any of the airbags in any cars I've been in.

I think about 99% of the benefit is the cost savings. Not to the buyer of course. The only ones who will really notice are the ones that need it.

And the spare is an option, or there are solutions for not having a spare on cars that don't have it. $100 to $300 is tiny compared to the $20,000 to $30,000 for the car that otherwise meets all your needs.

Reverting a 2016 sans-spare to kosher avec-spare is not trivial. The fill pieces surrounding the spare are different, and I suspect the hatch deck is a different part. It'd be an interesting exercise to go through on paper, once the parts numbers are available. I'd wager to do it right you'd be approaching a grand.

This is kinda interesting. From the 2016 Owners Manual (now available at Toyota Tech Info):

    And this:

Maybe somewhere else in the world??

Owner's Manual, in pdf format, from the North American Tech Info site I believe. Just google "Toyota tech info". It's the first hit, and manual available in the "manual" tab. Somebody started a thread on it this morning, not my find. :)

They mighta actually reinforced the rocker panel at the scissor jack points, if this pic is accurate:

    Capture.JPG

Third gen basically puts a couple of notches in it, to tell you where to use the scissor jack, but is in no way beefed up.

I'm guessing it's poor editorial control, these references to full size spare are for somewhere else in the world, or not applicable, period. At any rate, a bit more:

    Capture.JPG

(the expression "15-inch tires (Type B)" doesn't appear anywhere else in the document)
