Do you park then turn off car or turn off without park

With all the respect, I think you are missing the point. The problem does exist. It actually led to the parking brake recall.

If you read the description of the parking brake recall, it states that parking brake can disengage while the car is not in "P" (meaning it is in "D"). So clearly it happened to those folks, who did not press "P".

To finish this discussion, here is a real event that happened to me. We were switching cars in the garage. I moved my car back and another car parked in the first spot. Then I moved my car behind, applied the parking brake and press something that I thought was "P" but was a different button. Then I took my foot off the main brake pedal. The car did not move, but in front of me there were people putting things in the trunk of the car when I noticed my car was in "D"! You call this problem imaginary?

Now when I change my routine, the problem is gone. Because I trained myself to look for and find the "P" button before I do anything else. But this was exactly my motivation to respond in this thread.

And echoing some of the posts in this thread, yes, pressing the power button first does solve this issue at the root. And, btw, it solves another one too - leaving the car running. I personally always lock my car, so I get an error signal if I forget to turn it off, but a few weeks after buying the car I was talking to a lady at a car wash who also had Gen 4, and she told me she left the car running overnight. If I am not mistaken, in this forum one person left the car running for some 11 days...

Park, Power, Parking brake... unless I forget

 

I usually hit "power" and leave. I was taught as a teen NOT to engage the parking brake because (in Alaska,where I lived) people had experienced moisture freezing against the parking brake cable, which can cause the brake to fail to disengage. Therefore my policy is basically to ignore the parking brake except when it's useful due to a hill.
I'm also among those drivers who wishes there was a switch or setting to stop the vehicle from initiating a torque converter automatic (creep). It definitely ISN'T a torque converter auto and I grew up driving a non torque converter car (manual transmission =>no creep) so I don't really appreciate my car pretending to be an ordinary auto trans car.

 

I imagine TOYOTA incorporated "CREEP" because for almost 70 years, almost every Auto Transmission or most Semi-Auto, no matter the type, incorporated CREEP. I also drive Manuals, but it's second nature to expect CREEP when I drive the PRIUS or my Dad's Camry.

You can be certain that TOYOTA aren't going to offer a NO-CREEP switch.

 

i wonder how difficult it would be to feather the car in tight spaces without the creep. it's not like you have a clutch, and it can be pretty jerky

 

Or try a poorly adjusted DSG - they have no creep, or sometimes have creep - depending on what mood they're in - then they lunge.

Give me a Creeping HSD over that. It's let down by the HillHolder which doesn't work when reversing up a hill .
