Do We Need the Rear Window Wiper?

Pictures? Hell we need MPG before amd after.

 

Is there a howto on removing the wiper.

I think the thing is bulky, in effective and makes cleaning the rear window much harder.

I would love to take it off but only if I can be sure I can seal it off with a good weather tight smooth fitting that lets me wash the rear window.

I've tried searching here and with google to no avail.

 

The rear window has a slant portion and a vertical portion.

The vertical portion is protected by the "wing" so it gets dusty. On rainy days it gets just enough water to have drops but not enough to get sheets. I can't see through drops and I can see through sheets. I am a long distance commuter so the dust on try days prevents me from seeing out too and I can't wash the car all the time - long hours at work. So now I just wipe the vertical portion when I put in gas.

The slanted portion is barely wiped. It is not so slanty for the water to just slide down. So water collects there too.

And then there is a "wing" to block even more view.

Just a real bad combo.


I would buy the car again though.

 

I read a thread on the GII where others replaced the standard blade for a 20" blade- has anyone done this on a G3 yet? I agree, the swath is small, but useful. I'd like to see if a larger blade might make it even more useful.

That would be good to know - my current opinion is that the wiper is better than nothing, but not what it should be.

i took off my rear wiper in 05. there is a grommet around it and a metal/toothed rod that sticks up. i covered mine with a jack-in-the box ball....

design may have changed a bit for Gen III but i kinda doubt it...
