DIY JDM style side mirrors combo lights (Signal+Parking+Courtesy lights)

I have to admit, I just finished the install and I completely gave up on the Puddle Lights. I was never really sure if I wanted them in the first place, and after hanging upside down for over an hour with my feet by my head rest literally touching the blue wire behind the ECU and not being able to get a tap on it, I said screw it.

I love my turning lights and pilot lights and I'm very happy. I don't think I'll ever mind not having puddle lights.

 

If the is anybody out there that just wants the signal only light, I have a new set from a pair of JDM mirrors that I don't need. Let Mr know if there is anyone interested & I'll post a F/S thread.

 

if they're the wish ones, they don't fit (mine didn't). and there's no puddle {I see now where you said a "signal only" mirror...}.

 

They fit on my Prius mirrors. I choose against them cause I wanted the puddle lights.

 

Lol. But the puddle lights are the coolest part!

Edit: I forgot to mention that tapping into the blue wire at A pillar will be a million times easier.

 

That's weird, cause mine would not allow the covers to go on. They were ALMOST identical, but they had a very slight curve difference where the covers would not go on with the Wish signals in. We were just messing around with them to see if they would fit, just out of curiosity. The covers from the Wish mirrors wouldn't fit on our mirrors either. The mirrors were just ALMOST identical, but slightly different enough that they didn't. I halfway suspected that a person could just put the ENTIRE top part of the Wish mirrors onto our mirror stalk, but at their $78/hr rate they were charging me -- it wasn't worth delving into it any longer!

 

Interesting......I didn't snap the cover on.....I just placed it on top since I wasn't going to use them anyway. So maybe they don't fit.

 

I bet you would not say that if they were working. I love it when they turn on for me as I approach the drivers door.

 

now are you guys saying (ones that got the mirror from MIT) all of you that the paint dosen't match up to BP? i have one from mit on the way to me

 

the paint matches just fine. On top of that, unless you paint the stalk on yours white, also, like I did, the white cover is not mounted against the body of the car, so even if it is a SLIGHT bit different ---- it is no different than the painted pieces that came on your car from the factory (I think the few examples where the forum members felt their paint was quite a bit darker were the exception overall). It's kinda like the Valenti tail lights where the smoked ones that another member and I bought were full of "bubbles" in the interior paint/coating. Everyone else's, though, seemed to be just fine. Regarding the mirrors, the white pearl color is just about the hardest color to have match exactly, with slight differences from the factory depending on whether the body piece is plastic or metal, and if it was painted with the same "batch" of paint the rest of the car was painted with. It'll be fine.

 

Mine didn't match that good. They look a lil to dark.....& mind u that my car was has a build date of 3/12 so my paint doesn't have any UV damage.

Maybe. Metal and plastics might still look different even with the same batch of paint.

just got mines in today .. will take a pic when i install and wash the car.. looks good but need better look in bright daylight. some posted to clay bar and polish it maybe that will make it look better

Mine were dead on.

 

i took a pic of the ecu plug and looks like this is the elusive blue for the puddle.. just want to verify with you guys .. its right by the pink wire in the same bunch of wires. i remember someone said was next to a pink and was smaller gauge. i have a gen 3 model 2.

 

oh also tip for the mirror is that when you put it back you start with the 2 tabs where it pivots and push that first to snap in place then noting where the other two tabs are and push down till you hear pop in. you can hear difference between the gears sound and tab going in sound. and yeah my pass side mirror didn't have adhesive on it. only the driver side.

 

i'll finish the install when i get home.. i just got the mirrors in for now.
