So I've now read a bit of this thread. Great job Troy, this is as good of a price there is. Thanks for offering!

Interesting... I just purchased mine for 1,000 8yrs/75k. I was hesitant, but was told I had to purchase this in the beginning (wouldn't be offered after).

Sales rep. told me I can cancel it within 60 days for a 100% refund though. It was compounded to my payments for like an extra $18 a month (around there). Thoughts? Cancel and add later? :t

It's totally up to you. $1000 is a very fair price (I can do better), but I have no way of re-working it back into your auto loan. So if you cancel the current plan, the refund is applied as a credit towards your loan balance...but it comes off the principal and won't change your monthly payment. Then you'd have to pay upfront for the new plan.

However, at least you can wait a bit before re-purchasing if you decide to go that route, since you are eligible as long as you're within the factory 3 yr / 36K warranty.

Either fill out the request on WarrantyShack, or send me an email at the address in my signature if you'd like a quote and purchasing info.

    Thanks,

    Troy

    Re: Extended Warranty

    I have a 2004 Prius with over 110,000 miles.
The extended warranty would have been a costly waste of money

    Maintenance has been...

*oil change, tire rotation and balancing every 5,000 miles
*both air filters changed every 25,000 miles done by myself
    *wheel alignment every 50,000 miles
*premium tires at 40,000 miles and still have about 10,000 miles
    *12 volt battery after 6 1/2 ......
*drain and replace coolant every two years by myself
*water pump on electric side replaced under a recall [free]
*water pump on gas side replaced included belt ...$400 at 100,000 miles
*center display unit.... replaced with used unit....$200 at 95,000 miles
dealer quoted me $1000 for a new unit

My original brake linings still have about 15,000 wear
I will be changing the spark plugs and wires within the next few weeks

Check with other long term owners and I believe you will find similar experience...

Oh Yes... the batteries in the fob only last about 3 years
    and cost $3.50

    Re: Extended Warranty

Of Course! Toyota needs and expects the majority of people to have trouble free or nearly trouble free vehicles to make up for the claims that they do receive.

I get numerous calls and emails from people that have used the extended warranty plan for claims that have cost many thousands of dollars. (I can recall one in particular that was over $6,000!). This is what people want to be protected from.

It's only because the Prius and the other Hybrid models ARE so reliable that the cost of these plans are so low compared to other makes.

Thanks to all who have commented to make this a strong topic.

    My decision was based on:

    1. complexity of electronic systems & tightness of mechanical parts in a confined area
    2. being tired of repairing & maintaining systems (as well as nicks, cuts & bruises from repairing)
    3. removal of repair anxiety as the car ages
    4. ability to obtain discounted Toyota Extended Warranty
Special thanks to Troy Dietrich (Toyota of Greenfield) for his quick responses & discount support for the PriusChat members. Thanks!

    My wife & I just bought a 2011 Prius Model 3.
We will buy the 8year/125K mile Extended Warranty.

I may just go ahead and cancel my warranty tomorrow. I can't remember how much I paid but it was definitely more then this!!
Do they prorate it? I doubt it since I haven't hit the extended warranty period yet.

If you're beyond 30 days since the plan was purchased the refund will be done on a pro-rated basis. For a quote on the exact refund amount you can call Toyota Financial Services at 800-228-8559.

I just got the Platinum 8-year one form the dealer for $1195. I have not compared the coverage details with third-party ones.

    Re: Extended Warranty

I don't know if you realized it, but you're quoting a 7 year old post with prices from back in 2004.

...and not enough information to know whether your $1195.00 price really is a good deal or not. If it was for an 8 yr / 125K plan with $0 deductible, and really is a Toyota Financial policy, you did great. If it was for a 75K plan with a $50 deductible then I could have saved you quite a bit.

Just an FYI for those looking to purchase the Platinum Extended Warranty from Troy. Very nice guy to do business with as I have bought the 7 years/100K warranty without much hassle. Please note that the warranty starts from the date the Prius was put into service and not the date you bought the warranty. Also the 100K miles starts when the odometer was 0 and not your current odometer miles + 100K.

Not knowing much about how these extended Toyota warranties are processed, how would Toyota know whether a vehicle has 35,000 or 40,000 miles on it (as long as is it still under 3 years from purchase)?

    Does that really even matter?

Yes, mileage matters. You have to be within the 3 yr / 36K factory warranty in order to be eligible.

All I need is a signed & dated statement from the customer. I wouldn't recommend falsifying information because there's a clause in the contract stating that all coverage would be become void. Quote: "If any material information provided to the Administrator cannot be verified as accurate or is found to be deceptive, no coverage will apply under this agreement." Most people send me a photo of their odometer or a copy of a recent service work order as a supporting document so there's no question about it.

I purchased a warranty 7 years 100k. I paid close to 2k for it not knowing about this thread. I am in the process of cancelling it. Does this coverage cover gaskets and damage due to gaskets? This is one thing the customer service rep told me to be aware of before purchasing another warranty.

Please let me know! I plan on purchasing this as long as those are covered as well! I will have to save for a few months though to get this since I can no longer finance it.

Yes, this is for the genuine Toyota Extra Care plan and it covers seals and gaskets.

If it helps, I could also sign you up for a Toyota Visa card to pay for it. They're offering an introductory 3.99% rate for the first 6 months, plus you'd get 5% back in rewards which you could redeem at your local Toyota dealership.

Hi troy! Thanks for the offer on the credit card, but I am not in the mood to get yet another card lol. I will save up and pay for it when I can. I can do this anytime prior to 3 years or 36,000 miles right?

No problem. And yes, anytime while you're still within the 3 yr / 36K warranty.
