My dealer said you can have the repairs done at ANY dealer under the extended warranty....we were offered about $1300, didn't take it so far.... Let us know, Danny and thanks for working on it.

I bought a used Prius, only 4,00 miles, with the extended warranty 7/75,000/0 purchased by the previous owner. The cost on the paperwork states $1895! When I get the warranty transferred to my name, can I cancel it and get some money back....then, buy it again at the lower price Danny mentioned??

That's a damn good question, and one that hasn't been asked yet. Email [email protected] with your specific question and we'll see what we can find out together.

    transfer extended warranty

Does anyone know the process to transfer an extended warranty? Is there a cost involved? I bought a used Prius with an existing warranty. Thanks.

    To smtrader:
Look in the booklet that describes the extended warranty.
It will describe how to transfer the extended warranty. I am selling an Impreza so I can buy my Prius. I expect to pick up a number 9 driftwood.
For my Impreza, it costs$35 to transfer the contract to a new owner. I suspect there will be a similar fee for the Prius.

And as for cashing it in, I can also choose to cash it in for a pro-rated basis. I paid $1200 for it and can now cash it in for about $700. So this too might apply for you.

And I doubt that I will get $700 more for the car with this warranty, so I'm pretty sure I'll be cashing it.

Re: Toyota Service Contracts / Extended Warranty - Discounte

Buy the Toyota warranty, not the Warranty Direct version.

My wife bought a Dodge Durango in 1998, and we bought a 7 year/100K mile/0 deductible extended warranty from Warranty Gold. Everything was good for a few years. Then the car needed some repairs (totalling about $1,200). The dealer called the warranty company, and then called us. Turns out that outfits like Warranty Gold, Warrany Direct, et al. are not the true insurers. They merely sell a plan, which is administered by a third party. In our case, the adminsitrator for the extended we purchased through Warranty Gold had filed for Chapter 11. One and a halfs years later, it is still in the courts to be resolved.

Fortunately, we did not lose out, because a year earlier, the AC had failed, and it cost as much to fix as the extended warranty had cost.

In any event, after that incident, I will only purchase an extended warranty that is offered from the car manufacturer.

I just got my 2005 Prius today. ..and just joined PriusChat.

I did not get the extended warrantee exactly because of the price.
Question...i the warrantee that PirusChat is offering a Toyota service anywhere warantee and that it will be honmored by any Toyota dealer?

What's the process in getting the warrantee?

    Thanks

Re: Toyota Service Contracts / Extended Warranty - Discounte

    Hi All,

Just thought I would take a minute and say hello and clear up a few questions.

The service contracts that Danny and I are offering through PriusChat, are the factory backed Toyota Extra Care plans administered by Toyota Financial Services. These plans, are honored throughout the U.S. and Canada, even though there are parts of the country where they are not offered (usually due to distributership agreements in those regions), they can still be purchased through us, and will be honored for claims at your local dealers. Everyone should feel free to both check Toyota's official website here: Toyota Financial Extra Care Website or call Toyota Financial at their customer service number (800) 228-8559, they are more than happy to answer questions.

Also, don't forget that a percentage of every plan purchased through PriusChat goes back to Danny to help support and keep this forum running.

Thanks, Troy -- that makes it crystal clear. (Though I should spell it out: you're offering the Toyota Platinum Protection Plan option, correct?)

As soon as my Prius arrives, I'm definitely contacting you re: getting this.

    Sorry about that.....

Yes, actually on the Prius the only plan type available is the Platinum.

However, for those of you that have other models of Toyota's, I can offer similarly discounted prices on the Gold and Powertrain plans although I still think that the Platinum is the best value.

And if anyones interested, I can also offer Lexus Extra Care plans through Lexus Financial Services.

Re: Toyota Service Contracts / Extended Warranty - Discounte

Hi Danny and all: I did some comparative shopping for the extended warranty. The dealer from whom I bought the car wil sell me the 7 year / 100k warranty for $1035.00. He will also sell a 6 year / 100k warranty for $870.00. This is considerably less than the retail $1695.00 that you are quoting, but more than your special offer.
The finance lady at the dealership told me that this rate is what they offer to folks who bought cars from them; I assume the price would be higher for someone coming in off the street. Also, I think the price goes up the closer one gets to the expiration of the original factory warning.
I am going to do it, though, and I will probably do it through Priuschat unless I find some spectactular offer here in Seattle.

Re: Toyota Service Contracts / Extended Warranty - Discounte

Hi Danny again: I heard back from the Seattle dealer about the service warranty and they are charging $1650 for the 7 year and $1450 for the 6 year warranty. The prices seem to be all over the place.
Congratulations and thanks for getting this for such a good price. I emailed the chatline and hope to get the warranty within the next week or so.
This is a great chatline that benefits a huge number of Prius owners. Thanks for putting it together.
    Bob in Seattle.
