Your warranty from the US will be honoured in Canada. Good luck,

    Gabe, thanks.

Now, I'm trying to find a DIY DRL installation kit.

Who has had any experience with the extended warranty posted with this forum? Is it the same platinum warranty that dealers offer?

Prius 07, what about the Toyota Auto Care Prepaid Maintenance? Do you know of anyone who has purchased it in the US and used it in Canada? I think I should also inquire from the dealers in Toronto if they accept Toyota Auo Care coupons from the US.

In this thread, I've read a lot about the usefulness, practicality and good financial sense of buying the extended warranty from Troy. But, I haven't read a lot of discussion about the prepaid maintenance package. Is it a good buy? I think for $875, it is a good buy. Someone here estimated the cost of maintenance to exceed $1,000.

    Thanks!

Pre-paid maintenance is a no-interest loan to the seller. Save your money: pay as you go.

There is no car less in need of an extended warranty than a Prius. See the April 2008 issue of Consumer Reports. Invest the purchase price or put it in a bank, and make a profit for yourself.

I don't know whether the prepaid maintenance is a good thing to buy. However, I do remember Troy telling me that before buying the prepaid maintenance, that I should check with the actual dealer(s) in New York City where I would be having service done, to make sure they accept the Auto Care coupons. So, apparently, not all dealers (whether US or Canada) accept them.

Richard and Boo, thanks! You raised some valid points.

I'm still debating whether I'm going to get the extended warranty and prepaid maintenance.

As several people have stated here, it all depends on how much risk you're willing to take (similar to insurance). Yes, it's true that consumer reports have indicated that the Prius as a "low risk". But, for the low price of $990, how comfortable am I taking on that risk?

With regard to the prepaid maintenance care, I'm going to call a couple of dealers in LA and in Toronto to check if they accept the US auto care coupons. Then, I'll decide from there. In today's low interest rates (which may remain low in the next 4 years), the cost of money isn't really much of an issue. I have to think about it.

Thank you for your inputs! :)

Some people reported buying them at Canadian Tire. Check it out; you can also do a search on this forum for "DRL". I'm not informed on the warranty coupons it would be prudent on your part to check with the dealership you plan to use.

    Good luck

Yes, I found a thread (see below) where the owner successfully installed DRLs on his new Prius. I can order the parts online. They're about $39. Plus, he passed the Canadian inspectors. I'll save a little bit of money if I do it myself.

    http://priuschat.com/forums/knowled...urn-signal-drl-installation-instructions.html

With regard to the prepaid maintenance plan, I may have to call a few Canadian dealers. According to Troy, he hasn't found any Canadian dealers who would accept it. I'm leaning towards not getting the plan after reading several posts here. There are more people who say that the prepaid maintenance plan is not worth it. I think they're right.

I'll just buy the extended warranty for $990 which Troy is sure will be honoured in Canada.

    Thank you!

Beach247: you may want to check into the Ontario $2000 PST rebate. Not sure of your residency status but Ontario offers this rebate including cars imported from the US.
    Good luck

I am not comfortable in taking risk on the Prius at all, therefore the phone call from Troy yesterday has eased my mind, as he got my CC info. The 7 year / 100,000 mile warranty along with the auto-care coupons should help out a lot. I averaged 33,000 mile a year in my '98 Toyota Camry (and I just found out it had a distributor issue that should be easy to solve for the current owner) and I need the Extended Warranty for my peace of mind.:)

Oh wow! Thanks for the tip! I will definitely call the Ministry of Tax Revenue Office. I won't get too excited until they confirm that I'm qualified to get the rebate.

I was neither a Canadian citizen or permanent resident when I bought the car. But, I'm moving to Canada as a permanent resident. I will do my landing formalities around June or July 2008.

My dealer quoted a ridiculous price for the extended warranty, but said that we would get a total refund if we never ended up having to use the warranty.

Does the warranty Troy offers include that refund stipulation?

What is the current status of getting a discounted price for Toyota Extra Care Platinum Warranty this post appears to be from 2003. Is the $990 discounted price still available or is this all history? Is this the "Toyota Extra Care" Platinum vehicle serfvice agreement? I sent an inquiry using the link and received an automated reply that from Troy at factorydiscountwarranty.com stating he is out of the office till next week.
I'm going to pick up my Prius tomorrow and I would like to be prepared to either pass on the extended warranty from the dealer or sign up if it makes sense.

    Thank you

    Don,

It's real. It's the Toyota Extra Care Platinum Warranty - 7 years/100,000 miles. And it's still $990. If I were you I would pass on getting the extended warranty from your dealer unless it's at or near the same price. There's no harm in not having the extended warranty at the time of purchase. You have until the earlier of 3 years or 36,000 miles to elect to get the extended warranty.

Does this or are there similar 3rd party extended warranty for Prius in Canada? Thanks.

I understand that the Toyota Extra Care Platinum warranty is good anywhere in the US and Canada.

But of course you should confirm this with Troy/WarrantyShack.com before buying.

Re: The dealler just tried to sell me a $2300 warranty

    This is my first post.

Just yesterday purchased an '08 Prius and the dealler wanted $2300 for the warranty.

I see on the Toyota sire the price is $1,850.

Boy I am glad that I passed on the dealler offer.

This is a terrific post!!! I paid $2195 two weeks ago for the Platinum 6yr/100K service agreement from a dealer here in Las Vegas. Obviously I got dupped. I've just submited my quote request to WarrantyShack and will be cancelling my other service agreement first thing Monday morning. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for providing this link and for helping all of us better understand this important topic.
